The Royals have firmly refused to comment on glossy Netflix drama The Crown, but the other side of the family has now hit back with a blistering attack on the portrayal of the Middletons.
In the latest episode of the popular Mail podcast, The Crown: Fact or Fiction – out tomorrow – the Princess of Wales’s uncle slams producers for portraying his sister Carole as ‘evil’.
Gary Goldsmith goes on to attack the show for ‘completely’ misrepresenting other family members, including his parents, plus Kate and Prince William, claiming he struggled to understand why his sister ‘didn’t take legal action’ because of her characterization.
The sixth and final series, released last month, represents Mrs Middleton as a ruthless social climber obsessed with seducing her daughter into the young prince’s affections.

It features a completely fictional scene, set in 1996, in which Kate meets William. It sparks a crush in Kate – and sets in motion Mrs Middleton’s plan to ensure her daughter gets a place on the same course as the prince at St Andrews University.
Businessman Mr. Goldsmith told the podcast that he enjoyed the first few series of The Crown, but it fell into a “fantasy world”. He said: “The story, the truth of it, has gone out of its way to make headlines.
“Once it started getting ridiculous and fantastic, it was really hard to watch, so I stopped.” He added: “If they wrote a book, where would you put it? It won’t be in art history, right? Put it in the children’s section.’
In an attempt to set the record straight, Mr Goldsmith said: ‘Carole is not this manipulative evil person… who thinks of ways to worm her way into the royal family.
“First and foremost, Kate did a fantastic job getting into St. Andrews. She’s a great girl, but it went unnoticed. It was all about ‘Kate, you have to do these things, you have to show your legs,’ and it’s just not my family. That’s not how Carole works.’
Staff at the company behind The Crown have shared bonuses totaling more than £10 million. It is unclear how many Left Bank Pictures employees shared the pot, but the website lists 36 employees, meaning they could have received more than £280,000 each.
The bonus, which was paid last year when filming for the show finished, was detailed in Companies House documents.
