‘Quantum Leap’ Cast Teases Season 2 Storylines After Ben Plot Twist

The Quantum Leap midseason finale yet Us with so many questions – and the cast drops some hints about what’s to come in season 2.

Before the Bomb Wednesday, December 13, Episode, Stars Ernie Hudson, Nanrisa Lee And Mason Alexander Park opened up exclusively to Us Weekly about how the second season of the NBC series differed from the first.

“It was really cool to see the feedback rolling in real time [for season 1 as we started filming the second season]. Especially leading up to the season finale, because there were so many big story points towards the end that kept raising the bar,” Park, 28, explained. “As we build out Season 2, we can do that 1702567528 talking about how it really feels a lot bigger and it feels like we’ve even found ways to make the show even more intense and even crazier.

While Park has enjoyed seeing viewers react as the season has progressed, Lee, 43, has preferred to take a step back.

“In terms of the reception, we were all very happy to be there. We really liked the show. We had a lot of fun making it. I enjoyed making it,” she said Us about her experience filming the first season. “For me personally, I don’t read that much about critical feedback, message boards or things like that. You don’t have time when you’re making the show. So for me it felt like a perfect storm: just keep your head down, do your job, mind your business and stay out of trouble.

Quantum Leapa revival of the ’90s sci-fi series, follows Ben (Raymond Lee) after he makes a secret jump through time and gets lost in the past. With the help of his ex Addison (Caitlin Bassett) and the rest of the Quantum Leap team, Ben tries to figure out what caused him to change history.

Wednesday’s midseason finale delivered a big twist when Addison’s new friend — and the new leader of the Quantum Leap team — Tom (Peter Gadiot) revealed that there might be a way to finally bring Ben back to the present.

Ben may come back to the present Us for a loop because it sounds too good to be true. According to Park, Ben’s potential return means the whole premise of Quantum Leap falls apart.

“If Ben comes back, we’ll be jobless,” Park joked. “Obviously, as characters, we all want to see a resolution to that storyline. We’ve been working for years and years – especially with the time jump – to bring this person back. I could probably say on behalf of all of us that as characters we want Ben back.

Park continued: “As an actor, I would like to do more episodes. So I’m sure [the writers room] has plans that I’m really excited about for all the different ways the show will continue from this point all the way to the season finale, which I think is really great.

Hudson, 77, meanwhile, is waiting to see how the plot twist plays out before getting his hopes up.

“It’s what we get into [with] trusting the producers and writing team. We all definitely want it when characters really want it [Ben to come back], but I also trust that they have looked further ahead. Like we said, we like the surprise of what comes next,” he explained Us. ‘And when Ben comes back, I’m sure it’s going to be very interesting. I’m excited about the possibility and I’m watching it all in one episode at a time. But the possibilities are all there.”

Lee also praised the writers for pushing the boundaries they themselves had created, adding: “It would change the format of the show quite drastically. But if it did happen, I’m sure our writers would find some really fun and interesting ways to develop that and maybe take another leap forward.

While the first half of season 2 aired, the cast is currently on set filming the remaining episodes. Without giving away any spoilers, the trio was able to tease where the story could go and how it will shape the future of the show.

“What’s really exciting for me is [the way] there are the characters, [but] there is still a great deal of it, [which] are the people behind the Pentagon. All these forces that make this possible that we actually have no control over,” Hudson pointed out possible threats. “They influence everything and how they come into play as we move forward is a mystery. But it is also very exciting. It’s not just up to us to just feel good about each other. There are other elements that really turn things upside down.”

Park has opted out of dropping any hints about how season 2 will play out, saying they know their “limits,” joking, “I’ll screw something up somehow.”

Lee, in turn, reminded viewers of the evolving character arcs and storylines.

“Season 2 has focused more on relationships. Between what’s going on with Ben and Addison together and separately [on an emotional level], as well as the rest of the team and what everyone is struggling with,” she noted. “It is a great opportunity for the audience to get to know other facets of these characters. Some of those things tend to build and we see some arcs of those things. But other than that I can’t reveal too much.”

“For me, I’d rather discover it as I go. But I think if some important things are going to happen, it’s nice to be aware of it because it affects everything that comes. [ahead of it],” Hudson said. “I don’t want to be completely naive about it, but I want to discover it as much as possible in the same way as the audience.”

Park said Us they would “get ridiculed a lot” on set for “not reading ahead” in their scripts.

“Narrisa makes it very difficult for me because of the level of uncertainty with which I may approach some things. But exploring is so much fun. It’s so fun to see what the writers come up with every week, especially because the show goes to some really wild places and it changes pretty drastically and really quickly,” they said. “I try not to get too attached to storylines or too attached to an idea of ​​what could happen, because chances are they’re going to throw a curveball at us anyway.”

Lee, meanwhile, enjoys checking in with her cast members to explain the big twists.

“Certainly, on more than one occasion I will [cast] thread, simply in capital letters after a script is released to us. It is exciting to be part of an ongoing series where big things are happening,” she noted. “I like to be surprised, but like Mason said, if it’s something directly related to our character, we get a heads up about it.

The actress concluded: “As for the twists and turns of things that happen with the program or during the jump, we just have one that I couldn’t control [about]. I only read it last night. It was insane. It’s going to be really exciting to deal with.”

Lee commented that it was nice to have Justin Hartley and his real wife, Sofia Pernasappears in an episode during season 1. She also applauded Bel Air‘S Diandra Lyle for playing prosecutor when Ben jumps into the 1980s.

Park joked that they were “selfishly excited” about their real-life partner Alice Kremelberg‘s presence on the show because of the glimpses fans have gotten into their character Ian’s personal life.

“We’ve been wanting to do something together for a long time, so it was so fun to find out that the writers actually wanted to make it happen at some point,” they shared. “It was something we literally talked about during the pilot. So that was really cool to see it come to fruition and be more than just a one-off, one-off experience. It’s nice for Ian to have someone who can respond to that. We’ve seen it now [Ian and Rachel together] four times, which was great.”

Hudson concluded by pointing out how Quantum Leap elevates its guest stars.

“The way the show is set up, it really gives them a lot to come and play. It’s not just a performance, the episodes are really written in a way to really show what they’re doing,” he said. “Stan Shaw, who has been a friend of mine for years, to see him come out and have fun, that was really important to me. And of course, I feel like for the fans, the ultimate guest star would be Sam Beckett [played by Scott Bakula] coming back [from the OG series].”
