Quantum Leap's Raymond Lee praises 'Immaculate' finale and teases season 3

During an exclusive interview with We weeklyLee, 37, admitted he was “not surprised” while reading the script for the second season finale.
“I know the capabilities of our writers. I know how good they are. It was just a matter of how much it would rock my socks off,” he explained. “I read that script and I immediately wish I could have sent a shotgun spray of texts because I'm trying to be as simultaneous as possible texting everyone who was responsible for writing the script about how impeccable their work was. “
Noting that viewers have plenty to look forward to, Lee added: “[The finale achieved] not just the loose ends of season 2, but also the entirety of season 1. And to also reach a level emotionally where we would feel satisfied as fans and as characters. I feel like there was no more tying the knot and that another dimension to another door was also possible if we continued. So I'm just so impressed. Not surprised, just incredibly impressed with everyone responsible for making that episode.

Quantum Leap, a revival of the '90s sci-fi series, follows Ben (Lee) after he takes a secret leap through time and gets lost in the past. With the help of his now ex Addison (Caitlin Bassett) and the rest of the Quantum Leap team, Ben tries to figure out what caused him to change history.
Season 2 introduced a three-year time jump that created more distance between Ben and the Quantum Leap team. Lee explained how the narrative decision helped shift the show into its next chapter.
“One of the main goals of Season 2 was to strip away the mythology a little bit, because we established that so well in the first season. The second season we really wanted to invest in the interpersonal relationships,” he explained. “We wanted to create a new obstacle for Ben and we wanted to see how it would all mix together.”
Lee highlighted how the second season pushed the story forward while creating “a lot of complications.”

“There are a lot of points just outside that all need to come back together. So the journey there was the most important part of Season 2,” he continued. “Coming together to do that was the biggest challenge and also the biggest joy of being part of the puzzle.”
The first season of Quantum Leap in which Ben and his loved ones tried to get him back. Season 2, meanwhile, helped Ben realize that he had to keep jumping through time for the greater good.

NBC“Ben discovered that this is his calling. Now that he knows he understands this somewhat – and by the end of [season 2] – I think Ben has come to a place of total acceptance and understanding that the best way he can truly save himself is to keep saving others,” Lee said. Us. “If there isn't a thorough intention as to why he was given life, then I think he would go somewhere else. I don't think he would be a successful jumper otherwise.”
Lee added: “He understands that by doing good, he is doing good for himself, and also good for himself and everyone around him. I feel like there is an understanding – a cosmic understanding – of why he was put here at the end of the day.”

While discussing the upcoming finale, which airs on Tuesday, February 20, Lee revealed how much insight he's gained into the show's future.
“I know where this is all going and I have so much confidence in it [the writers’] stories and taste. I just know that now that we've really understood what we're good at right now, we can make it rip even more than we already have,” he shared. “But yes, there are no indicators yet of what the story is [in season 3] or where we are now when it comes to renewal. But all I can say is that I am very satisfied and happy with the journey we have been on so far, and for the fans and for myself and for the whole group. We just want to tell more of a story.”
Quantum Leap airs on NBC Tuesdays at 10pm ET and will be available to stream on Peacock the following day.
