Rajya Sabha elections 2024: BJP wins 8 out of 10 seats in UP, Samajwadi Party takes two

Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party won eight of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. The Samajwadi Party won the remaining two seats. In the elections, opposition candidates voted against each other for the ruling party. “We had said from the beginning that all eight candidates of the BJP would win. All our 8 candidates won today. I congratulate all the winning candidates. I thank the people whose votes won them. Two SP candidates also won. So congratulations also to Akhilesh Yadav…BJP’s Vijay Yatra that started in Rajya Sabha will continue in Lok Sabha and then continue till the Vidhan Sabha elections and even beyond,” said Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.

The ruling BJP fielded eight candidates and the opposition Samajwadi party three for elections to 10 Rajya Sabha seats of the state. Samajwadi Party chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said two of the party’s three candidates – Jaya Bachchan and Ramji Lal Suman – have emerged victorious. The third SP candidate Alok Ranjan previously admitted defeat.

In a message in Hindi on X, Deputy Prime Minister Maurya congratulated the eight BJP candidates who had won. “Certainly, this spectacular victory is a guarantee of development based on the fundamental mantra of the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji: Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas,” he said.

Another deputy chief minister, Pathak, also congratulated the winning BJP candidates.
