Redbank Plains stabbing: Disturbing details emerge after woman was stabbed in front of her six-year-old granddaughter in a shopping center

A woman was stabbed to death in front of her granddaughter in a busy shopping center in what police say was a robbery gone wrong.

Emergency services were called to the Town Square Redbank Plains shopping center in Brisbane's south-west about 6.10pm on Saturday.

A 70-year-old woman was found with life-threatening injuries in the centre's underground car park and died at the scene.

The horrific incident took place in front of the woman's six-year-old granddaughter, who was unhurt and shouted for help from passers-by.

The knifeman is said to have stolen a car from the car park shortly after the incident, prompting an urgent manhunt.

Detective Acting Chief Inspector Heath McQueen described the incident as 'very distressing'.

“We can assure you that we are dedicating a significant amount of resources to this investigation tonight,” he said.

“We will continue to investigate this 24 hours a day, we will use all resources at our disposal to locate and apprehend this perpetrator.”

The attack was so aggressive that seasoned perpetrators were left 'stunned' when viewing footage of the incident.

Local doctor Ademola Afolabi rushed to the woman's aid after hearing the young girl's cry for help.

He said he saw “a lady in a pool of blood” and without a pulse before calling Triple-Zero.

“We tried some CPR, but there was nothing. At one point a nurse came by but it was too late,” Mr Afolabi told police. Courier mail.

Despite facing confrontational scenes in his work, he said the incident was unlike anything he had seen before and that “a little girl shouldn't have to witness that.”

'The only contact I had with her was CPR. “I've seen quite a few dead people, but nothing like this,” he said.

Although the granddaughter was unharmed during the attack, Detective McQueen said it will most likely “leave a scar on her.”

He is calling on anyone with information to contact police so they can assist with the investigation.

“This is a 70-year-old grandmother, this is standing in front of her six-year-old granddaughter, and now is the time to come forward and provide us with the information we need as to who this grandmother's identity is. perpetrator,” he said.
