Republic Day 2024: French President Macron arrives in Jaipur today and is received by Prime Minister Modi

French President Emmanuel Macron is visiting India as the chief guest during the 75th Republic Day celebrations at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.

Macron's state visit marks France's sixth participation, the highest among all other countries, as chief guest on India's Republic Day.

Republic Day 2024: The chief guest for this year's Republic Day, French President Emmanuel Macron, will arrive in Jaipur on Thursday. He starts his visit with a tour of the Amber Fort. Later, he will be received by Prime Minister Modi and the two leaders will tour the pink city together.

Macron's visit concludes the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the India-France Strategic Partnership. Ahead of the French President's visit, the pink city of Jaipur has been decorated with posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Macron.

Macron is visiting India as the chief guest at the 75th Republic Day celebrations at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.

French Armed Forces participate in Republic Day

On this occasion, a contingent of the French Armed Forces will participate in the Republic Day parade and take a flypast alongside Indian troops and pilots.

Macron will “visit the Amber Fort and interact with artisans, stakeholders in Indo-French cultural projects, as well as students. He will then be received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the two leaders will jointly visit some of the landmarks of the Pink City, including Jantar Mantar,” an official statement said.

Macron and Modi will hold bilateral talks

After their tour, the two leaders will hold in-depth bilateral talks. Later on January 26, President Macron will attend the Republic Day parade as chief guest.

“He will attend the At Home Reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan and later the State Banquet at the invitation of the Honorable President of India, HE Smt Droupadi Murmu,” the statement said.

Notably, Macron has previously been to India for a state visit in March 2018 and for an official visit in September 2023 for the G20 summit in Delhi.

Moreover, he has welcomed Prime Minister Modi to France four times. During his visit, Macon will be accompanied, among others, by a ministerial delegation consisting of Stephane Sejourne (Europe and Foreign Affairs), Sebastien Lecornu (Armed Forces) and Rachida Dati (Culture); a C-level business delegation from French majors, SMEs and mid-caps; and other prominent personalities, including ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet.

Moreover, it comes months after Prime Minister Modi's trip to Paris on France's Bastille Day on July 14, 2023. “This mutual invitation to celebrate the National Day is unprecedented and demonstrates the deep mutual trust and unwavering friendship that underpin to Indo-French ties,” the statement said.

President Macron's visit will consolidate the ambitious renewal of the strategic partnership between France and India decided by the two leaders in Paris on July 14 through the “Horizon 2047 Roadmap”.

Twenty-five years after launching their strategic partnership, France and India have embarked on new common goals for the next 25 years. Accordingly, President Macron's talks with Prime Minister Modi will seek to advance our cooperation and finalize new initiatives under the three pillars of the roadmap.
