‘I won’t pay’ anger Call doorbell owners about price increase in a few days

RING doorbell owners have just days to avoid a major subscription price hike.

The increase will affect Amazon Ring customers in the US and UK – and the cost of jackets will increase by around 25%.

From March 11, the price of a Ring Protect Basic subscription will increase.

For monthly subscribers, your costs increase from $3.99 to $4.99 per billing cycle in the US – and from £3.49 to £4.99 in the UK.

That equates to an increase of $12 or £18 over the course of a year.

If you’re an annual subscriber, the annual cost increases from $39.99 to $49.99 for US subscribers – and from £34.99 to £49.99 in the UK.

That’s a slightly lower annual increase of $10 or £15 compared to the monthly price increase.

Ring Basic Protect is the lowest subscription level that Ring offers.

Allows you to record video for one Ring doorbell or home camera – or ‘essential’ digital functions” for one ring.

With Basic you get up to 180 days of video historythe ability to download up to 50 videos at once, automated camera “home and awaymodes, person and package alerts and more.

Amazon has confirmed that you can avoid the price increase if your subscription is renewed before March 11, 2024.

So if you renew for a year before then, the price will remain at the current price for the duration of the renewal term, while a monthly renewal will only last for that one month and then increase.

If your subscription renews on or after March 11, 2024, you will be charged the new prices.

It’s also worth noting that the increase only applies to Ring Protect Basic plans, and not to Plus or Pro plans.

Ring Doorbell customers are unsurprisingly upset about the price hike.

In a Reddit thread on the Ring subreddit, a post about the price increase complains: “Ouuuch! This is a significant increase.

“As a new subscriber, I am honestly quite shocked by the increase.”

The post has generated hundreds of votes and dozens of comments.

One Ring owner replied: “Canceled subscription and gave reason as ‘price’ for feedback. I need to message them, this will not be tolerated.”

Another said: “All I want is to be able to check who showed up at my door earlier in the day. It seems like a lot to have to pay for that.”

Someone commented: “I just didn’t cancel it. I’m not paying for such a stupid increase.”

And another added: “It’s insane, I just canceled.”

However, if you are considering canceling, be wary.

“If you cancel a Ring Protect subscription, all your recorded videos will be permanently deleted,” Amazon warns.

“To save videos, you must download them before canceling your Ring Protect subscription.”

Amazon notes that you may be eligible for prorated refunds if you cancel before your cancellation next one invoice date.
