Robert Irwin is ripped apart by vegans for promoting iconic Aussie snack Twisties: ‘How can you say you are a conservationist?

Robert Irwin has faced the wrath of vegetarians and vegans after appearing in a Twisties campaign.

The 20-year-old nature warrior stars in a new advert asking snack fans to vote for their favorite Twisties flavour: chicken or cheese.

In the clip, Robert advocates the chicken flavor, while singer G Flip, 30, opts for cheese.

“To all my chookstituents! I say chicken is the people’s Twistie!’ Robert says from a podium.

‘Cheese has carried chicken on his glorious shoulders for far too long! No more cackling lies,” G Flip adds.

The campaign has sparked a backlash among vegans and vegetarians after it was shared on Robert’s Instagram page.

Chicken Twisties are neither vegan nor vegetarian, as the Australian snack contains at least three ingredients derived from animals, including chicken fat and whey powder (milk).

“A weird guy to be making this kind of ad,” one user wrote.

‘Why would you want chicken if you’re such an animal lover? Animals don’t have to die for cheese,” said another.

“How are you going to say you’re a conservationist and then promote a product made with chicken fat and milk? Make sure it makes sense bro,” a third wrote.

“I’m honestly surprised you’re not a vegan or at least a vegetarian @robertirwinphotography, someone who loves and cares about animals, just as you should care for the animals in the meat industry,” another commented .

Meanwhile, many fans jumped to the zookeeper’s defense.

“Soooo, because he’s an animal activist, he has to be 100% vegan 100% of the time?” one fan began.

“His father loved a good roast lamb and eating meat supports their bodies with the hard work and effort they do all day to keep the Australian zoo running smoothly,” they continued.

‘I am a zookeeper and animal lover. I like steak too,” another revealed.

‘I would venture to guess that if you look at nature every day, it will give you a completely different idea of how the food chain works. If you see a predator eating prey every day, you probably see it as part of nature,” a third wrote.

“As far as I’m concerned, the Irwins are the royal family of Australia,” said one.

‘His whole job is conservation, just like his father. And this is a commercial type guy, lighten it up. Robert is not allowed to do anything else unless it is strictly conservation??’ added another user.
