FORMER Tottenham wonderkid Romaine Mundle has agreed a permanent transfer to Sunderland – just six months after leaving England.

Mundle, 20, was widely tipped to become Spurs' next midfield superstar after coming through the academy.

He penned his first professional deal in 2021 and even made several matchday selections.

Yet Mundle turned down a new contract last summer to instead complete a shock deal with Belgian side Standard Liège.

The star played six times for his new club this season.

But Fabrizio Romano claims Mundle is now returning to England.

That's because Sunderland have struck a deal to transfer him permanently.

The Black Cats are enjoying an impressive championship campaign and sit seventh in the table.

Fans are starting to dream of another playoff finish.

And Mundle is seen as the man to help Sunderland achieve promotion in the Premier League.

The Stadium of Light side have reportedly rejected interest from several other Championship teams in the ace.

It is believed that Stoke and Swansea were both keen to sign Mundle.

But instead, he'll link up with stars like Jobe Bellingham in the Northeast.

One man Mundle is unlikely to play alongside is Alex Pritchard.

He is keen to leave Sunderland and went on strike last week to force a move.
