And when boss Adrian Lam dropped everything and flew 450 miles to tell him where he was going, he knew he wasn’t being liquidated.

Moylan, 32, said: “He flew from Brisbane to Sydney that day to have a meeting with me, it’s an old flight.

“It came out of nowhere. I spoke to Ricky when he was back in Oz. He spoke highly of the club and his experiences here.

“And both spoke about what they were able to achieve last year after being promoted and how they worked to build a side capable of playing in those big games.

“They also talked about the opportunity that lay ahead of us. It was exciting how they talked about the club and the direction it could go.

“I sat on it for a few days, but it sounded like something I wanted to do.”

Leopards coach Adrian Lam is in no doubt about the magnitude of tonight’s match; a win is needed quickly.

He said: “It is a must for us to win in the sense that we are not left behind on the table. We have to find a way to win.

“We’re not happy, but there was clear improvement against St. Helens. There were some good signs moving forward – there are good reasons to think we will improve.

“It takes six to ten weeks before your team is informed.”
