The driver said at the time that he was “lucky to be alive” after the horrific 35-minute “movie-like” ordeal.

Merseyside Police today announced they had arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous behaviour the driving and causing public nuisance.

The driver was on his way home from work around 2:30 PM when he claimed he saw a battery error in the engine.

But when he overtook another car, he claimed the brakes failed and all hell broke loose.

He recalled, “It just sped me up. It went up to 130 km/h, 150 km/h. It just went faster and faster.

“The handbrake button, neutral and reverse, nothing worked.

“I tried using the cruise control on the steering wheel, but it just didn’t happen.”

The driver claimed he had to speed through a red light and through a roundabout on the slipway before ending up on the emergency lane.

He managed to call 999 and police told him to stay on the hard shoulder while they mixed up eight police cars.

The officers intercepted his car, but he crashed into them after allegedly being unable to stop.
