Ryanair has warned passengers flying at Christmas about the festive items they may be packing in their luggage.

The budget airline announced on its website that a number of common Christmas items are prohibited in hold luggage and hand luggage. Therefore, she advises passengers to check this while they are packing.

According to Ryanair, some ‘seemingly innocent’ party accessories are a big ‘no no’ when it comes to flying – and some could even get you in trouble with airport security.

The website also listed two items that are considered a risk to the health of crew and passengers – and could even pose a safety risk to the aircraft.

1. Christmas crackers

The airline has warned that Christmas crackers are an ‘absolute no no’, especially as they fall into the same category as fireworks and sparklers.

Because they are considered explosive, flammable substances and they ‘pose a risk’ to the safety of passengers, crew and aircraft.

The airline advised waiting until you reach your destination before buying party poppers, sparklers, fireworks or Christmas crackers.

2. Toy weapons

It may seem obvious, but the airline has warned its customers to avoid toys that resemble weapons.

Toys such as plastic guns, water pistols, slingshots, darts and sports bats are not allowed in your hand luggage.

3. Wrapped gifts

Ryanair warned: ‘Don’t waste hours intricately wrapping gifts to carry in your hand luggage.

“Wrapped gifts may be opened, searched and screened by airport security personnel.”

The airline advises fliers to save their ‘expert packing skills’ until they arrive at their destination.

4. Fragile gifts

Although you can of course take fragile items with you in your luggage, Ryanair advised travelers to wrap them in bubble wrap and then in thick clothing.

It added that placing the item in the center of your checked luggage will keep it secure and supported from all sides.

5. Valuables

The airline advised passengers to put valuables, such as expensive jewelry, in your hand luggage.

The website said: ‘Take all valuables onto the plane in your smaller piece of carry-on luggage (which you can store under the seat in front of you)’.
