THOUSANDS of supermarket customers have been given free £10 vouchers after a service disruption.

Sainsbury’s was hit by a major technical problem this weekend, canceling most online deliveries on Saturday.

Sainsbuy’s released a statement saying the problem was due to an overnight software update

Customers could not pay for their groceries at the till and company bosses admitted that most online stores would not be delivered.

Some customers had to leave their shopping behind on Saturday as several stores stopped accepting card payments altogether in the afternoon.

The problem was resolved late on Saturday afternoon and Sainsbury’s issued a statement saying the problems were due to an overnight software update.

The supermarket has since apologized to its customers affected by the outage and issued a £10 voucher for any inconvenience.

A message was posted on the official Sainsbury’s Twitter account on Sunday saying: “Good morning, sorry you were affected by this issue yesterday.

“Any refunds due will be returned to your bank account within the next 3-5 business days.

“The £10 voucher is for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.”

Customers have taken to social media to let others know they have received their vouchers.

One person said: “After the Sainsbury’s debacle yesterday I got a £10 voucher which is nice.”

Another commented: “I got my £10 voucher this morning, thanks Sainsbury’s.

This is how you find the best bargains in the supermarket

While a third said: “I’ve received my voucher, unfortunately I’m shopping now.”

The €10 voucher has been added to all online grocery customer accounts.

Other chaos in the supermarket

Sainsbury’s wasn’t the only supermarket to experience technical problems this weekend.

Just hours after Sainsbury’s reported the problems, Tesco was also forced to cancel some of its home deliveries due to technical problems.

Tesco did not specify how many customers or which regions were affected.

But a Tesco spokesperson said at the time: “We are working to resolve a technical issue which has forced us to cancel a number of online orders due for delivery today.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

The technical issues are not only impacting home delivery, but are also impacting shoppers’ ability to visit stories for click-and-collect orders.

Customers were notified via an email that read: “Hi. We’re really sorry, but we can’t deliver your groceries today due to an issue with our system.

“You were not charged for the order.

“If you would like to reschedule your order, please use our website or the Tesco app.”

Meanwhile, Tesco has been forced to make a major change to its Clubcard promotions after a huge row with Lidl.

The discounter scored a victory over its use of a yellow circle logo to highlight Tesco’s Clubcard prizes in-store.

The supermarket lost its appeal against a ruling that it infringed the German discounter’s trademark due to the use of a yellow circle on a blue background.

Lidl uses a yellow circle in its main logo, while Tesco uses a yellow circle logo to promote its Clubcard prize promotion.

Tesco has said it will honor the ruling and update its Clubcard Price logo in the coming weeks.

While the look of the promotions will change, the deals will remain the same.

Lidl sued Tesco in 2020, shortly after it started using the yellow circle.
