Saturday Night Takeaway viewers went into hysterics when they noticed Anne Hegerty’s reaction when Jedward came on stage with her.

The quiz legend, 65, was joined on the set of the ITV1 variety show on Saturday night dressed as a hamburger and pitted against her Chase co-star Shaun Wallace in a battle as part of a skit.

The pair were joined by a host of other famous faces for her appearance on Ant and Dec’s show, but looked less than thrilled when singing twins John and Edward Grimes, 32, turned up to final the act as a pair of lobsters.

One viewer wrote on X: ‘Anne Hegerty was not impressed with Jedward. @antanddec @itvtakeaway #SaturdayNightTakeaway’

Another said: ‘Anne wasn’t happy!’

A third joked: ‘This is exactly how most people probably view #Jedward.’

And a fourth said: ‘Anne Hegerty went to see one of the Jedward twins on @antanddec. ‘Irritating plebs

But in fact the former I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! star was quick to speak out after seeing some viral tweets.

Anne described the twins as ‘delightful’ as she hit back at accusations that she was unhappy to see them.

She said: ‘Lovely boys. I don’t want to hear a word against them.’

In a second tweet she said: ‘We were joking and I channeled The Governess. It is clear that the press takes me much more seriously than I take myself.’

She later added, “The endearing thing is that they don’t take themselves seriously at all. I had a blast tonight.”

However, another fan himself seemed unimpressed, commenting that the show went ‘downhill’ with the sudden appearance of the former X Factor stars.

During the final episode, presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly surprised the audience by cutting to a live feed from their homes – where a celebrity guest had to change items in their room.

The guest then had to guess what was different in their room in an attempt to win a cash prize.

But when Ant and Dec went to talk to a guest in the audience, the person was left shocked and appeared to exclaim: ‘Oh f**k! Oh Jesus!’

Later in the evening show, Dec apologized for the blunder, saying: ‘Just a small apology – if you heard any language in that, we’re very sorry.’
