New Delhi: The winter season has arrived and North India is seeing temperatures drop every day; several schools in different cities will be closed due to the temperature. However, schools in Nainital are closed for a completely different reason. In the past three days, two women have been killed by a leopard in the Bhimtal Development Block Causing unrest and fear among the residents of the area. Considering the severity of the situation, schools in Bhimtal area have been closed to prevent such incidents involving students or teachers. Schools closed in Bhimtal area, Nainital

As mentioned earlier, schools in the Bhimtal area, where leopard attacks and fatalities have occurred, have been closed. Affected villages include Pandey, Jangaliya, Shimala, Bana Pinro, Alchona, Dudli, Devnagar and Tada; schools in the above-mentioned villages and the villages in adjoining areas will remain closed until further notice. Classes will only resume after the situation is under control.

Leopard attacks in Bhimtal area

The reason for the closure of schools is the leopard attacks that caused the death of two ladies in three days. On Saturday, Pushpa Devi (38) was attacked by a leopard while she was cutting fodder near her house at Pinro gram panchayat and lost her life. The villagers are angry and refuse to go ahead with the burial until the leopard is dealt with. Two days ago, Indra Devi, another woman, was killed in a leopard attack in Maluvatal village in Bhimtal block.

Chandra Sekhar Joshi, DFO, has assured that the department is doing everything possible to tackle the leopard; he further said, “More teams have been deployed in addition to the forest rangers patrolling the area.” Area Panchayat Chief Dr. Harish Singh Bisht has also expressed his concern and demanded action and issued orders to kill the leopard immediately.
