Shakira shares two sons with her former partner, Gerard Piqué, and has been documenting their family life since becoming a mother in 2013. Shakira and the retired footballer welcomed their eldest son, Milan, in January 2013, followed by Sasha in January 2015. “Sometimes it’s very difficult when you can’t see your sons for a while […]

Sharing a glimpse into her hectic daily routine, the Grammy winner said: “Yesterday I came home at 7am. My children were already waiting for me, so I had breakfast with them and stayed with them. Sometimes I don’t even go to sleep until it’s their bedtime.”

Laughing, Shakira confessed that she “walks on fumes,” adding, “That’s what I do because I want to spend time with my kids. I put them to bed and then I pass out. It was intense, I was juggling everything.”

Shakira acknowledged the challenges of single parenthood, noting that it’s all about finding the right balance.

“It’s the first time I’ve had to deal with so much as a single mother,” she explained. “So it is a challenge. But they are great.”

Since Shakira and Gerard Piqué announced their split after 12 years, she has opened up about dealing with heartbreak. “This is really hard to talk about in person, especially since this is the first time I’ve ever discussed this situation in an interview,” the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer told Elle in a September 2022 profile. When Lowe asked if her boys understand that she has to work, Shakira confirmed that they are a “great support.”

“They understand how important making music is to me, how important it is to stay productive, to feel relevant in society, to find your own place in the community,” she said. “They understand that very well and support me.”

Reflecting on the time she spent in Barcelona when her children were younger, Shakira expressed the guilt she felt at being torn between motherhood and her career.

“Every time I had to be pulled into the studio to do my work, I felt like I was leaving my family unattended,” she recalls. “There were times when I didn’t really enjoy it [work]. I felt guilty, I felt torn.”

However, with time things have changed. “Now it feels completely different. Even though it’s more challenging because now I’m in charge of these two children, these two babies who are so dependent on me. And I’m a single mother, I don’t have a husband at home to help with anything,” she added.

Like it was. Shakira and footballer Gerard Piqué were together for twelve years before announcing their eventual split. “[Gerard is] with me because he wants to be the person with Shakira, not the celebrity,” Shakira, who was first linked to the professional athlete in 2011, previously told Latina magazine in 2014. “There is real love, there is none […]

The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer went on to say that despite juggling work and home life, she is more committed to her music than ever.

“I want to tour, I want to perform [the fans] and be a better artist for them, and I also want to be a good example for my children. Those are the two biggest motivations I have now.”

Shakira and Piqué, 37, announced their separation in June 2022 after 11 years together. Earlier this month, Shakira admitted that she made major sacrifices for their family before the couple called it quits.

“For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so that he could play football,” she says The Sunday times. “A lot of sacrifice was made for love.”
