‘Sister Wives: 1-on-1’: Kody Brown Calls Bond Exes ‘Big F- You’

Kody Brown didn’t mince his words about his problems with Christine And Janelle Brown‘s new friendship in Part 1 of Season 18 Sister Wives: 1-on-1.

“I’m jealous because they’ve been acting the way they should for 25 years,” Kody, 54, said on the Sunday, November 26, episode of the TLC series.

Kody explained that with Christine, 51, and Janelle, 54, who are growing even closer after their respective splits, it feels like an attack on him. “I look at it as a big F – you to Kody,” he said. “It’s like we can get along now because this is really going to piss Kody off.”

The patriarch further claimed that his blowout fight with Janelle, which fans saw in season 18 and filmed in December 2022, was partially due to Janelle siding with Christine.

‘I think they make fun of me because… when I’m little [it] makes them feel good about the way they treated me,” Kody said, referring to Janelle hanging out with Christine after her split from Kody in November 2021. Janelle, meanwhile, confirmed in December 2022 that she and Kody had separated.

Meri Brown announced in January that she and Kody had also ended their romantic relationship and headed out on their own Robin Brown married to the head of the family.

Kody says he ‘didn’t vet women to be compatible’

Kody told the host Sukanya Krishnan that “divorce messes you up” after splitting up with three of his four wives. He revealed in the tell-all, which was overheard after season 18 filming wrapped in December 2022, that he was only “in love” with Robyn.

“I look back and because I wanted so much to live the principle of plural marriage, I didn’t check who I married to suit me,” Kody explained. “The blame lies only on one thing. If you are going to get married and marry for eternity, you have to start with love.”

He noted that he had blinders when he went to his first three unions. “I thought I could make up the difference. I thought that everything in this situation with all three women: this is not about being in love,” he continued. “This is about growing a family together. We love eachother. Were required. The gospel requires that we love one another. But I’ve never really suffered from a fit of passion here.”

Robyn didn’t know that Kody cried with “joy” after their first meeting

“I met Robyn and there was a safety and a vulnerability that I had never experienced in my life,” Kody revealed. “And I met her, and I started crying for joy and didn’t stop for months. Let’s just say the two of us hit it off. While I worked with these others for years to get them this spot. Never had the click.”

After Robyn learned of Kody’s comments, he told Krishnan during the sit-down, “I didn’t know that until recently.” I wonder if it’s just rewriting history, because a lot of that seems to be happening.”

She added: “I don’t know what else I had to do, but I did my best not to let it be painful for them. I constantly suppressed and hid my relationship in whatever relationship I had with Kody.

Christine’s heart “broke” when she realized Kody was “in love” with Robyn

For her part, Christine described the “gross day” when she realized Kody was head over heels for Robyn and that was why their dynamic would change.

“It broke my heart. That was one of my first moments of heartbreak,” Christine said, explaining that the moment happened before Kody was about to go on a date with Robyn ahead of their wedding. She remembered Kody being nervous about the night, which led to Christine saying out loud, “Oh, you’re in love with her.” Although Kody was initially surprised by Christine’s comment, he eventually agreed.

Christine, who shares six children with Kody, recalled her ex-husband getting “really giddy” when she thought about Robyn in her presence. “I thought, ‘Oh God!’ It hurt. It hurts so much,” she said. “It’s so bad because at that moment you realize that everything is going to change now.”

Kody admits he’s ‘guilty’ of ‘not being in love’ with exes

Kody reflected on his family’s change following Christine’s departure from their family in 2021, saying it changed the way he approached all of his weddings. ‘This is what happened. “I watched for two years and watched Christine and Janelle talk about me without me, and all they do is talk me down,” he claimed. “So I guess I don’t want to ask about anyone else because I don’t want anyone to talk about me.”

He claimed his exes spoke ill of him “because [they think] Actually I am guilty, yes I am, because I don’t love them.” Kody clarified that he “got angry” about the trash talk, but that his feelings of guilt stemmed from years ago.

“I was guilty of not being in love with them. It was a guilt trip from the beginning,” Kody continued. “I got married on a premise that was very different from that [what] romantic love is.”

He then confessed that he was “in a place” where he would “want romantic love with Janelle” if they resolved their differences. “Christine was always in a place where she wanted romantic love with me,” Kody added.

Christine says Janelle friendship gives Kody a taste of his own medicine

Christine told Krishnan that she thinks Kody “definitely” feels “betrayed” by her friendship with Janelle after they both left him. “I’m like, ‘Well, buddy, this is what jealousy looks like. Now you see how hard it is when two people bond,” she said. “Janelle and I have a great bond and maybe he’s jealous of that bond. Maybe he’s jealous that we co-parented.”

She noted that the change in dynamics is “bad” for Kody because he finally sees what it was like to be a sister wife. “That’s stupid sometimes [Janelle] chose me over you because she can talk to me and I will work things out with her. And because we’ve had our fights and disagreements, but we’ll figure it out,” Christine explained. “It’s been like this for 26 years. ‘Take off your blinders and see what it’s like for us.’”

Robyn claims she “never wanted an apology” from Janelle’s sons

Much of Season 17 and Season 18 surrounded Janelle and Kody arguing over their two youngest sons. Gabriel And Garrison, who allegedly disrespected Kody’s COVID-19 rules. Kody said at the time that he wanted an apology from his boys, and he wanted them to say sorry to Robyn, who he claimed was also rude to him. However, Robyn revealed on Sunday that she “never” wanted to get into the middle of the drama.

“I understand that, as a husband, it’s his right to say it, I guess. But I also never wanted an apology. I didn’t ask for it. I never expected one,” Robyn claimed. “I didn’t say this to him and I feel very frustrated that my name was dragged into this because it wasn’t something I was interested in.”

Janelle felt “a huge burden was lifted” after the Kody fight

At the start of season 18, viewers watched as Janelle and Kody had an argument over their children and family plans for the December 2021 holidays. It was later revealed that the argument resulted in two months of the couple not speaking and the apparent official end of their romance.

Looking back, Janelle explained that the fight was somewhat cathartic. “I was quite emotional for a few minutes because of the emotional shock of it. I never fought with Kody like that,” she recalled. “And then I had to do some shopping and I remember feeling very relieved. It really was the strangest thing. I was sitting in this parking lot here in Flagstaff, [Arizona], and suddenly… I felt like this enormous burden had been lifted from me. I felt relieved. I didn’t have to put any effort into this relationship with Kody anymore.”

For his part, Kody recalled feeling “so betrayed” by Janelle during their fight. However, now he can see that they were struggling even before that moment. “This is not an accusation [but] Janelle and I have both seen so little value in the relationship that we haven’t taken the steps to bring it back together,” he said. “Janelle sees more value in the relationship with Christine than in the relationship with [me].”
