New Delhi: Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress on Wednesday said the “arrogance and hatred” in his speeches show that he is afraid of people teaching the BJP a befitting lesson in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and alleged that his assurance is “just to lie to spread”.

Modi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, alleging that the opposition party has become old-fashioned and has always been against any form of reservation.

Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks for the President's speech in the Rajya Sabha, Modi said the Congress has “outsourced” its work and expressed condolences over the demise of the grand old party.

Reacting to the Prime Minister's comments, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that these people do not believe in the Constitution.

“They (BJP) believe that independence was achieved in 2014. They don't know that we got independence in 1947 and Congress fought for it. They don't want to recognize it. The Prime Minister said countless lies…. He is not in the habit of telling the truth and does not contribute much,” he told reporters.

In a post on He has become so engrossed in his lies, the applause and his media that every question regarding the public makes him angry. Anger guarantees destruction, not development.”

Kharge said in a post on Modiji has said numerous false things about the UPA government.”

“Modiji, in your speeches in both Houses, you have only cursed the Congress. Despite being in power for ten years, he only criticizes the Congress party instead of talking about himself. Even today he did not talk about price increases, unemployment and economic inequality,” he said.

“The government actually has no data. NDA itself means 'No Data Available' Government – Census 2021 has not been conducted, there is no employment data, there is no health survey. The government is hiding all statistics and spreading lies,” he alleged.

In a post on the microblogging platform, Congress General Secretary (Organization) in-charge KC Venugopal said Modi has made it a “fashion” to attack Kharge, a towering leader who has risen from the grassroots level to the position of Leader of the Opposition (LoP). ) in the Lok Sabha and Congress president.

“Today he crossed a line again. Both his speeches in Parliament are a cruel joke on the people of India. If, after a decade in power, Narendra Modi can only come up with cheap, juvenile and misleading attacks on the Congress, it shows the bankruptcy of his ideas and morals,” Venugopal said.

It is clear that Gandhi's second cross-country yatra has upset him, he added.

The Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) are rising up like never before against the “anyay (injustice)” meted out to them by the BJP-RSS and extending their full support to Gandhis social justice mission, Venugopal said.

“An entire electorate, suffering the double whammy of unemployment and price rises, looked for a clear solution from the Prime Minister, but he had nothing to offer. After these speeches, it is becoming increasingly clear that a new term for Modi and BJP will mean another five years of hopelessness and despair for the poor and middle class,” he said.

“The arrogance and hatred in the Prime Minister's speeches show that he is actually afraid that the Congress will defeat them and the people will teach them a befitting lesson in the Lok Sabha elections,” Venugopal said.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, he said Modi's speech showed that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is afraid of the Congress. He asked whether the Prime Minister is aware of the views of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on reservations.

“The speech showed how much he fears Congress. He only attacks Congress. That indicates the significance of Congress. The Prime Minister must study Jawaharlal Nehru to know who he is…. He refers to Nehru's quotes, but who made the reservation? Did the BJP do it? What was the RSS's view on reservations?” he asked.

Congress leader Rajiv Shukla hit back at Modi for his comments on Nehru's “against” reservation and said reservation was implemented by the government led by the country's first Prime Minister.

“When was the reservation given? During the time of the Congress under the government of Jawaharlal Nehru. After that, (former Prime Minister) PV Narasimha Raoji introduced reservation for backward classes. But the Congress took care of all caste groups. We did not use them for votes,” Shukla said.

“They are used to abusing previous governments. What has not been done in the ten years (of Manmohan Singh's government)? They are now implementing schemes that were made at that time, such as the MGNREGA, the Food Security Act and loan waivers. Even the Chandrayaan project was started under the Manmohan government,” he added.
