A busy mom who once weighed 18 pounds has revealed her new figure after dropping a whopping seven dress sizes.

Kelly Rogers, 45, from Swansea, Wales, was so devoted to trimming that she used her annual leave to join weight-loss classes.

The uphill battle produced incredible results, taking the mother of two from a dress size 24 to a size 10.

The payroll clerk piled on the pounds after indulging in curries and chips and enjoying drunken weekends.

After years of self-neglect and fad diets, she has revealed a healthier lifestyle consisting of a diet of salmon, salads and black coffee.

She said, “I knew I had to make a change.

“I completely changed my eating habits and cut out the weekend drinking binges.

“I even signed up for a local weight-loss group for which I booked free time every Friday.

“In the first week I lost 8 pounds, which made me determined to lose more. I started boxing at the gym where my son works and the weight started to come off me.

“It’s amazing how far taking those annual vacation days has gotten me. Having that extra day just for myself to focus on my weight loss made a world of difference.”

The single mother was thrust into parenthood at the age of 19, where she immediately found herself navigating between family life and a career.

During the week she cooked meals like bolognese and curry, but often ate double portions plus leftovers.

And as her kids Cory, 26, and Kai, 19, got older, she started indulging in Friday night wine binges and excess weekend drinks.

She explained, “I’ve always been a working mom so I’d like to make the most of the weekends with the kids, which meant going to McDonald’s or getting a takeaway.

“It was fun for the kids and easy for me, but all of this meant my weight only increased.

“I’ve never had a sweet tooth, but if there were leftovers I’d have to eat them and eat double and sometimes triple servings.”

What Kelly ate for her diet

Breakfast: instant noodles or leftovers from the night before

Lunch: lasagna or fish and chips

Dinner: Curry, rice and naan bread

Snacks: Chips, a patty and a ham sandwich

Drinks: tea, hazelnut latte, fizzy drinks, wine on weekends

Lunch: Chicken salad or a small baked potato with salad and tuna

Dinner: Salad with chicken or salmon

Snacks: Crab sticks, fruit, a slice of ham, and low-calorie fiber bars

After an “indulgent Christmas,” things came to a head for the mother, and in December 2021, Kelly vowed to banish her unhealthy diet.

As of January 2022, she took 12 weeks off from work every Friday to attend a weight loss support group.

And within the first three months, she lost a whopping four stone and dropped to a size 48.

“I cut back my portions and made sure my plate was full of fresh veggies,” Kelly said.

“I was thankful to my boss for letting me attend the Friday group sessions because it really helped me stay focused.

“Being able to share my weight loss journey with others was important because we kept each other going.

“I feel great and when the weekend comes I don’t even think about drinking a lot of wine.

“My weekends are all about nutritious eating and good habits, like going to the gym or taking long walks with friends.”

By the end of 2022, Kelly lost another six stone and slipped comfortably into size 40 dresses.

Kelly says dieting doesn’t have to be boring because she still makes time for some fun every now and then.

She said, “When I drink, I opt for something low-calorie like gin and slimline tonic instead of wine.”

“Instead of greasy bacon on Saturday morning, I eat omelettes or boiled eggs with mushrooms and spinach.”

Kelly’s lifestyle change was for her family as well as her own health, especially as she looks forward to becoming a grandmother for the first time.

She said, “My kids say they are proud of me and I am happy to make them proud.

“I feel incredible and I’m proud of the lifestyle I’ve been able to create. I can’t wait to become a grandmother in August and run around with my grandchild when they are older.

“I’ll be able to be a hands-on grandma and I can’t wait.”
