St Lucy’s School in Wahroonga: Boy, 10, dies at disabled school after being crushed by lift

A 10-year-old student has died after being crushed by a lift at a school for the disabled in Sydney’s northwest.

Emergency services were called to St Lucy’s School in Wahroonga at 2pm on Wednesday following reports that a child was seriously injured on campus.

Police officers from the Kuring-Gai Police Area Command arrived and found the boy trapped under a lift.

Fire and rescue services were able to free the boy, but he died at the scene.

St Lucy’s caters for both primary and secondary school pupils with autism, sensory impairments and mild to severe intellectual disabilities.

The student is said to have been in a wheelchair, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The school was placed on lockdown shortly after the incident, with the students’ families believed to have been informed.

NSW Police remain on campus and have established a crime scene while recovery operations are ongoing.

A NSW Police spokesperson said the incident does not pose an ongoing risk to the public or other students.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
