She said that to earn some extra money, she does other people’s laundry for them.

Carol revealed that she earns a few hundred pounds a week from the simple side jobs, and she can do this on top of cooking dinner or other tasks.

She said she picks up about four to five people’s laundry a week, adding that it’s usually just one bag of clothes.

“It’s not hard to do when you’re home with the kids,” she said.

Are you taxed on additional income?

Many households engage in a variety of side activities, such as babysitting or setting up an eBay store, to increase their income.

And luckily you can take advantage of a ‘trading allowance’, which means you don’t have to pay tax on annual gross income of £1,000 or less.

However, if you earn above the £1,000 threshold you will need to declare this to HMRC.

You can apply for a trade deduction via Self-Assessment on the government website.

First you need to let them know that you are a sole proprietorship and tell them how much you earn in income, when you started and who you are.

HMRC will then send you a UTR number with which you can file a tax return yourself.

The tax year runs from April 6 through April 5 of the following year, and the deadline for payment is the following January 31.

“Sometimes you don’t even have to fold.”

Carol explained that you don’t even need a fancy new washing machine to do the side hustle, describing hers as ancient.

She said she finds her laundry customers through apps, such as Hampr.

You don’t need any qualifications or certifications to sign up for the app and can work from the comfort of your own home.

Carol said she often gets tips from her clients, which she said makes the side hustle “really worth it.”

She added that some customers even give her laundry detergent, so she doesn’t even have to pay for it.

The laundry expert advised that you must come from a smoke-free home to do the side hustle, but said pets are fine as long as you keep them away from the laundry.

“If you already know how to wash and dry clothes, this will be very easy for you,” she said.

Carol said she charges around £20 per bag of laundry and added that if you live in a city there will undoubtedly be a lot of customers nearby who will want to use your services.

The laundry whiz’s video has likely impressed many as it has amassed over 60,000 followers.

TikTok users rushed to the comments section of the video to share their thoughts on Carol’s hack.

One user said: “I would love to do this as a side income”.

Another user said: “This sounds great”.

A third user added: “I do this, but not through an app, just word of mouth in my small town.

“It is awesome”.
