Sunil Lahri on Alia Bhatt playing Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: ‘Not sure how convincing she will look now’

Sunil Lahri on Alia Bhatt Sita playing in Ramayana: Ramayana is the oldest epic connected with the feelings of billions of Indians. The timeless text of sage Valmiki is considered sacred and the most pious aspect of India’s spiritual legacy. The character of Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Hanuman and Laxman (Lord Ram’s younger brother and the incarnation of the main serpent god Sheshnag on whom Lord Vishnu rests) is revered by followers of Hindu tradition and culture. Prabhas-Kriti Sanon lead role Adipurush has been criticized for only distorting the sanctity of the text, but also Ramanand Sagar’s television serial. Sunil Lahri, who wrote Laxman’s character in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan recently gave his opinion on the direction of Om Raut. He also talked about Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana in which Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt would play pivotal roles.

SUNIL LAHRI RESPONDS TO ALIA BHATT PLAYING GODDESS SITA IN RAMAYANA

Sunil opined in an interaction with Hindustan Times: “They are both very good actors and I think they will do justice to the subject. Ranbir is a very good choice for the role of Aries and can give a good performance. Alia is also talented, but I think if Alia had played the role of Sita five years earlier, she would have done the character more justice. It’s my personal opinion. I feel that Alia has changed in recent years. I’m not sure how convincing she’ll look as Sita now.’ He also gave his suggestions to those who want to adapt the great epic for the silver screen. The actor stated, “They should not change the basics. The treatment of the Ramayana should be decent and respectful. It cannot be experimented with while making a new version. The language, the portrayal of the characters and the scenes should be in sync with the epic. The characters should be well defined. Our show was true to the essence of Ramayana and people of different religions, age groups and demographics connected with it and liked it.

Besides Sunil, Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana also starred Arun Govil, Dipika Chikhlia, late Dara Singh and late Arvind Trivedi as Ram, Sita, Hanuman and Raavan respectively.
