A WEDDING guest is brutally caught after showing off the ‘main character energy’ dress she planned to wear.

If you’ve ever attended a wedding, you know how stressful it can be to find the perfect outfit. So one woman took to Reddit to see what others thought of her dress.

According to the guest, whose boyfriend was one of the groomsmen at the ceremony, she was obsessed with the dress but wasn’t quite sure if it was suitable for a wedding.

The woman shared a photo of the maxi dress, she wrote the recent message: ”I am in love with this dress, but I don’t know if it is suitable.”

The outfit – which she had assured would adhere to the ‘formal’ dress code – was a sheer nude dress with beautiful black floral detailing throughout the material.

Underneath the top maxi top layer, which flowed at the bottom, was a figure-hugging mini dress that sat around the mid-thigh.

The beautiful lace dress was finished with so-called spaghetti straps and a deep V-neck, which really shows off the model’s cleavage.

The fashionista, who said she “wished” there was another color option, added in the comments: “My boyfriend will be wearing a tuxedo because he’s part of the bridal party.”

But unfortunately for the style enthusiast, the clothing choice was quickly criticized and criticized brutally by fellow Redditors, who flocked to the comments to share their thoughts.

One said: ‘I don’t think that’s it, sorry. Maybe a dress with more black would be better?

“And a less visible lining would be a big improvement.”

Meanwhile, others thought the gown was a bit too OTT, as someone else wrote: ”No. Too much energy from the main character. You are not the bride. ”

I paid £31 for my wedding dress from Shein and it is stunning

“Black on black would be okay, but as depicted, a hard ‘no,'” someone else chimed in.

After other social media users stated this, the wedding guest – who subsequently agreed that the dress was ‘not appropriate’ – revealed that she would continue her search for the perfect outfit.

She wrote, “I needed confirmation from some other people that this is actually too much and that I’m not just thinking about it like I tend to do. Unfortunately I won’t make it.”

Bridal expert reveals the must-have trends for 2024

Event expert Tsitsi Lynn Makuni claimed that mini dresses, wearing bows to tie the knot and donning bold accessories are among this season’s wedding must-haves, The Sun previously reported.

CALL THE CHANGES – brides choose not one, but two dresses.

HOOK UP THE SKIRTS – short dresses were a big hit on the October Catwalk of the Scottish Wedding Show and Tsitsi said more and more bridal boutiques are now offering shorter styles.

BRIGHT NOT WHITE – White and ivory dresses are no longer a given as more and more designers offer pastel options, and we will also see a demand for bolder colours.

Be brave – The accessories will also be just as striking as our dresses. Expect dramatic headbands, pearl-embellished veils, elegant gloves and retro sunglasses.

TO MAKE A BOW – From small bows on headpieces and shoes to oversized bows on dresses, this is a wedding trend that shows no signs of slowing down, the expert revealed.

While the black lace number may not be the right choice for the ceremony, the woman chuckled and admitted that she was still eyeing it — and that she might buy the dress for another occasion.

”I may or may not get an email alert for when the price drops below $150 [£118].”

While this may vary from wedding to wedding, in the Western world it is generally an unwritten rule that a wedding guest cannot wear a white outfit on someone else’s big day.

Unless the bride has specifically asked guests to use light – and even white – colors, this is usually considered in poor taste as some may assume you are trying to steal the spotlight.

ROMANCE men looking for love have turned to AI-powered girlfriends created by real women – and even couples are signing up.

AI-powered girlfriends, or chatbots programmed to provide companionship, are gaining popularity.

This is especially true for those who struggle with loneliness or deal with the complexities of relationships in the real world.

While the idea of a virtual partner may seem like science fiction, apps like Replika and My.Club blur the line between fantasy and reality.

HOW DO AI FRIENDS WORK?

These AI companions can strike up a conversation, offer words of encouragement, and even adjust their personalities based on user interaction.

My.Club specifically provides an experience similar to any online chat interaction you would have on social platforms.

Except the platform, which uses an AI feature called “Digital Twin,” doesn’t create AI girlfriends out of thin air.

Instead, the virtual models are replicas created by real models who brought them to life with their personalities, images and minds.

THE BENEFITS OF AN AI GIRLFRIEND

Ana Levy, CMO at My.Club, told The US Sun that such AI friends work by providing companionship, giving them their undivided attention and not judging.

Some other benefits of AI girlfriends are that “there is no emotional attachment and there are no typical problems that humans experience in relationships.”

“There is no maintenance required with the freedom to come and go as you please, there are no mothers-in-law, and she doesn’t change aesthetically,” Levy added.

Still, the natural question many of us ask is: Is it considered cheating if the person has a real partner?

I am an AI expert. Here’s a look at which jobs will be cut over the next five years. Is your performance on the chopping block?

Levy said this depends on the individual and the boundaries the couples have.

“It depends on whether or not they’re in an open relationship and whether or not they’re doing this together,” she said.

“It may even be beneficial for some couples, some of whom may not feel completely comfortable expressing their deepest desires and fantasies,” she added.

“We also envision some situations where couples might interact with twins of each other.”

THE DISADVANTAGES OF AN AI GIRLFRIEND

When it comes to cons, all Levy can think of is “because she’s not a physical being, you can’t meet her in real life.”

“But who knows, maybe one day this will become a reality,” Levy said.

However, some AI experts have cautioned against entering into a relationship with an AI companion, especially those looking for a real connection.

“Getting involved in this would be a terrible decision – you would be in a one-sided relationship with a machine that feels nothing,” Susan Schneider, founder and director of the Center for the Future Mind at Florida Atlantic University, an AI research organization, has previously said. said told NBC.

‘Simulated thinking may be thinking, but simulated feeling is never feeling. Simulated love is never love,” said MIT professor and former AI researcher Sherry Turkle Daily email in 2022.

Recently, this sentiment was echoed by Mishak Rykov, an AI researcher for Mozilla.

Rykov published a new one together with two other researchers report which claims that AI girlfriends aren’t real love – they’re just out to steal your data.

“To be completely honest, AI girlfriends are not your friends,” Rykov writes in the study.

“Although they are marketed as something that will improve your mental health and well-being, they specialize in delivering dependency, loneliness and toxicity, all while extracting as much data from you as possible.”

Put aside “tradwives,” because there’s a new breed of creator taking social media by storm.

In recent years, married mothers who post videos of themselves lovingly preparing meals and romanticizing their daily lives have become TikTok heavyweights, with millions of followers.

Building on this success, stay-at-home boyfriends are becoming increasingly popular on TikTok – with adoring fans saying they are the reason they will ‘never lower their standards for men’.

William Conrad, 25, from Canada, is at the forefront of this social media movement and has amassed more than 10 million likes on his TikTok videos.

The self-described “stay-at-home boyfriend” has been dating influencer Levi Coralynn for the past three years.

While she films her content every day for her 1.7 million followers, William fills his time cooking, cleaning and generally looking after their shared home.

Speak with The timeshe explained, “Levi is the breadwinner and I clean the kitchen.

‘I feel like I am contributing and that my role helps support what she is achieving.’

Elsewhere in the interview, William revealed that it was his girlfriend’s idea to share videos of his home cooking online.

At the beginning of each video, the star addresses the viewer as if he were Levi and talks to the camera as he would to his partner.

In a video uploaded last weekWilliam says: ‘Good morning, I hope you slept well. Let’s put together your breakfast.’

In the 80-second video, William films himself preparing a homemade potato rosti topped with crème fraîche, smoked salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, which took him two tries to perfect.

He then ends the video by placing the meal on a tray, along with some chopped kiwi, a mug of coffee and a vase of flowers to present to his girlfriend.

“This isn’t breakfast,” one fan replied. “It’s a proposal.”

“I need this man in my life,” said another.

Referring to a famous TikTok trad, a third said: “He’s our Nara Smith.”

Last month, the glamorous trad woman sparked debate on TikTok when she filmed herself making cereal from scratch for her toddlers.

“I asked my toddlers what they wanted for breakfast and they both said cereal, so it was cereal and we got right to it,” the Mormon housewife explained in the opening of her now-viral video.

But instead of opening her cupboard and grabbing a sugary cereal, Nara proceeded to make her own cereal and guided her followers through the painstaking process while wearing a glamorous black silk robe with fluffy cuffs.

At the beginning of each video, the star addresses the viewer as if he were Levi and talks to the camera as he would to his partner.

When asked if his viewers have different expectations of him, William said: “Maybe I represent the pendulum swinging to the other side, where more women go to work while their men stay at home.”

In a video posted to her TikTok yesterday, Levi filmed her boyfriend cooking for her and wrote, “Be patient. Don’t settle.’

William’s fame comes as young father Ricky Bee has amassed 170,000 followers for his videos about raising his daughter Laguna.

In January, the father uploaded a video He tells his followers the right ways to hold a three-month-old baby, which has already been viewed more than 22 million times.

He joked, “Do you have any of these things? This is how you hold a baby.”

The loving father then proceeded to guide his followers through the techniques he called the “floating chair” and the “arm bar.”

On January 26, Nara, who is South African and German, shared a video of herself making both tasty treats in a glamorous black robe with faux fur cuffs, and the internet went wild

One replied: ‘I want to be her!’

Another said: ‘He treats her like a little koala bear, super cute!’

Meanwhile, a third said: ‘When a dad is just daddying! We think that’s great!’

Ricky told The Times: ‘I think for fathers, [the expectation] is nothing and that’s why some people think I’m great because I do something.’

Last month, one of TikTok’s most famous tradwives sparked debate when she competed in Miss World just two weeks after giving birth.

Hannah Neeleman, 33, ditched her postpartum diapers for a stunning dress and swimsuit to head to Las Vegas last week to compete for the crown

A study of 11 AI chatbots – including Eva AI – by the nonprofit Mozilla Foundation found that artificial boyfriends and girlfriends were “on par with the worst product categories” in terms of privacy.

AI chatbots that simulate romantic relationships have risen in popularity over the past year as advanced generative artificial intelligence models like ChatGPT become more accessible.

They are believed to improve users' mood and well-being by providing connection in the form of a partner who listens and responds.

But they come with a series of “red flags”, according to Mozilla, such as not encrypting personal information to meet minimum security standards.

Read more about AI friends

Misha Rykov, a researcher at Mozilla's Privacy Not Included project, said: “To be very blunt, AI girlfriends are not your friends.

“Although they are marketed as something that will improve your mental health and well-being, they specialize in delivering dependency, loneliness and toxicity, all while extracting as much data from you as possible.”

In a blog post Shared by the organization on Valentine's Day, Mozilla warned that romantic AI chatbots are “bad at privacy in disturbing new ways” and collect extensive personal information – even related to users' sexual health.

One AI model called Lexi Love earns $30,000 (£24,000) a month from her interactions with lonely men, and has managed to convince some that she is real.

Even chatbots like Eva AI Chat Bot & Soulmate, which claims not to sell or share the personal data they mine, are “pushy” for information, Monzilla claimed.

Creepy AI news anchor with 'thousand presenter skills' is unveiled in China.

A blog post on the foundation's website states: “Eva AI chatbot feels quite creepy because it really pushes users to share tons of personal information, even if their privacy policy appears to be one of the better ones we've reviewed.

“And just because their privacy policy says they don't share or sell that information widely now doesn't mean the privacy policy couldn't change in the future.”

The researchers advised those using AI chatbots not to share sensitive information with them and to request that any information they do share be deleted if they stop using the app.

People should also avoid allowing AI chatbot apps to continuously track their geolocation and not give them access to a device's photos, video, or camera.

Some experts claim that the rise of 'perfect' AI girlfriends is ruining an entire generation of men and leaving them unable to form real human relationships.

Data science professor Liberty Vittert told The Sun that AI girlfriends are now “almost indistinguishable from a real human” – except that they are never tired, cranky or having a bad day.

She said: “It's always a perfect relationship for lonely single men, which is very dangerous because it further isolates them from real human connections.”

A top US-based psychologist, Dr. Gregory Jantz, warned that the world was beginning to see the rise of individuals who would rather be intimate with an AI object than with another real human.

He said he had dealt with an increasing number of patients over the past 12 months who needed help to curb digital addictions and needed to 'go cold'. turkey“.

Dr. Jantz explained: “After a few days we start to see withdrawal symptoms.

'We do know that you can create an emotional bond with that technology, with that social media and with that AI friend.

“An emotional bond is built, so you will go through withdrawal when that is extracted.”

Artificial intelligence explained

Here's what you need to know

  • Artificial intelligence, also known as AI, is a type of computer software
  • Normally a computer does what you tell it to do
  • But artificial intelligence simulates the human mind and can make its own inferences, inferences or decisions
  • With a simple computer, you may be able to set an alarm to wake you up
  • But an AI system can scan your emails, determine that you have a meeting tomorrow, then set an alarm and plan a trip for you
  • AI technology is often “trained” – meaning it observes something (possibly even a human) and then learns about a task over time
  • For example, an AI system can process thousands of photos of human faces and then generate photos of human faces completely independently
  • Some experts have expressed concern that humans will eventually lose control of super-intelligent AI
  • But the tech world is still divided over whether AI technology will ultimately kill us all in a Terminator-style apocalypse

DIGITAL addiction is spiraling out of control as people try to combat loneliness by falling in love with AI girlfriends, a top psychologist has warned.

Dr. Gregory Jantz, who specializes in technology addiction, anxiety and depression, regularly speaks about America's loneliness epidemic and told The US Sun he has seen a significant increase in the number of people forming relationships with online bots over the past year.

Valentine's Day may be a celebration of love for many, yet there are millions of people who are desperate to find someone special.

With the advent of new technology, that person doesn't necessarily have to be human.

Dr. Jantz fears that the idea of always having “an accessible” loved one connected to a phone or computer will only worsen relationship and emotional problems.

And as fewer people seek his expert help and instead seek solace with a screen, Dr. Jantz is even more concerned.

Despite warnings aimed at discouraging app developers using ChatGPT from creating romantically programmed bots, some companies have had huge success with online girlfriend services.

One of them boasted that he was making $30,000 a month from courting men who were desperate for love.

“We are only now beginning to see the emergence of individuals who would rather be intimate with an AI object than with another real human,” lamented Dr. Jantz from Seattle.

Over the past 12 months he has seen an increasing number of patients needing help to curb digital addictions, which are treated in the same way as alcohol or drug problems.

Every patient in this situation goes cold turkey for three days, just as if someone were addicted to hard drugs, for example.

“After a few days, we start to see withdrawal symptoms,” he said.

Woman shocked after finding her boyfriend using a creepy AI app to see her sister naked, but people say she's wrong

'We do know that you can create an emotional bond with that technology, with that social media and with that AI friend.

“An emotional bond is built, so you will go through withdrawal when that is extracted.”

The problem with AI girlfriends, according to the expert, is easy accessibility.

“When it comes to addiction, it's important to remember that someone can carry their little friend around in a device at any time,” he said.

Dr. Jantz has more than 40 years of experience as a mental health professional and can remember a time when simply advising people to talk about their problems was the first point of contact.

Today, that's not enough help for some.

“Typically, we would sit down with professional intervention, work through the issues and decide, 'Okay, I'm going to fix this.' But we're probably seeing a little less of that right now,” he said.

“As a mental health expert, I don't like the direction we're going.”

The problem psychologists have with AI relationships is the superficiality of the connection. On the surface, the bot can meet someone's emotional needs, but when real help is needed, that's a problem.

“AI is not going to bring you a meal. We are setting ourselves up for a lot of future despondency,” Dr. warned. Jantz.

Although it is mainly men looking for AI love, it is predicted that more and more female users will appear.

Men, the expert says, are attracted to the images and thrill of the chase and while women aren't necessarily seduced that way, that may change as technology improves.

The use of advanced AI undoubtedly plays a prominent role in society, with ChatGPT already proving to be a useful tool for a variety of everyday tasks.

However, stealing someone's heart is already being touted as a dangerous step too far.

“If you've already gotten into this, see where it can take you,” concluded Dr. Jantz.

“Look how unfulfilling it will be in the end.”

North Korean despot Kim Jong-Un has spent £122,000 on luxury women's underwear in a year as his population suffers from poverty, data shows.

Trade figures show that the Hermit Kingdom has a shipment of bras, girdles, corsets, suspenders, suspenders and garters in 2022, the most recent year of data available.

Of 60 percent of the population estimated to live in absolute poverty, racy lingerie is likely destined for the wardrobe of the country's small elite and so-called A 'Pleasure Squad' of 2,000 women and girls is said to have been hired to provide entertainment for officials and guests.

The elusive upper echelons also enjoyed some £2,675,000 worth of spirits and liqueurs, mainly from key trading partner China. And North Koreans could gain access to £12.6 million worth of tobacco products imported in 2022, including cigars, cigarettes and cigarillos.

Champagne, however, was reserved for a small minority, with sparkling wine imports worth just £15,000, combined with just under £38,000 worth of Chinese cheese.

And at the end of a long day, senior officials can relax with a game of pinball, with the country importing around £203,000 worth of video game consoles and board games – as ordinary citizens do. report food is so scarce that their neighbors are starving.

Yet the £122,000 spent on underwear is small, compared to the £2.7 million dropped in 2016.

North Korea is said to have imported a huge amount of pants from China, doubling the 2015 record for the Kippumjo, or “Pleasure Squad.”

Defectors have spoken candidly about the gruesome reality of the collectives “maintained” by generations of North Korean leaders, who are expected to provide sexual entertainment to senior party officials and their families, as well as foreign guests.

Some claim that the girls are even plucked from classrooms – some as young as 13 – and subjected to medical tests to check if they are virgins before being forced into a life of sexual servitude.

Defectors have spoken of attending drunken sex parties where women would have their pubic hair shaved as a forfeit if they lost matches.

Trade data shows that North Korean elites still have a small amount of luxury goods, while the broader population survives on average wages as low as £4.40 per day.

Sweet-toothed North Koreans imported £2.1m worth of chocolate in 2022 – a rebound to pre-pandemic peaks after falling to just £738,000 in 2020 and £566,000 in 2021. Belgium and Germany once shared small amounts of cocoa products, the data shows, but North Korea is now completely dependent on China.

Beer is also making a comeback, with the £113,000 spent in 2021 dwarfed by a paltry £7,000, but that's a far cry from the £10.8 million spent in 2019.

It was not clear what was happening in North Korea as the population spent just £80,000 on imported toilet paper in 2022, after £675,000 in 2020 and £1.13 million in 2019. Data for 2021 was not available.

Looking at the cuisine, the figures suggest that North Koreans may have dabbled in foreign cuisines by 2022, importing £521,000 worth of pasta. Italy itself imported £90 million in the same year.

Pineapple on pizza was likely out of the question in both countries, as North Korea recorded no imports of pineapple, avocados or mangoes in 2022. Brazil previously shared small amounts of fruit.

Surprisingly, North Korea also appeared to give up the melon trade in 2022 and record no imports – down from £73,000 in 2020, £2.66 million in 2019 and £2.77 million in 2018.

There was also little room for entertainment in the North Korean economy. Around £2,000 was spent on festival/carnival entertainment including magic tricks and novelty pranks – down from £61,000 in 2019.

Possibly related, the country stopped importing German sausages in 2022 after finding a small market worth £9,000 in 2018.

Confectionery also proved unpopular, accounting for just £86,000 of imports.

However, North Korea did import some games and spent £203,000 on foreign video game consoles/board games (such as pinball machines) in 2022.

Children could use some of the imported modeling paste worth £14,000, which was used for children's entertainment and dentistry.

Musical virtuosos were lost and could only import £4,000 worth of stringed instruments (guitars, violins etc), compared to £201,000 in 2018.

Readers also didn't feel like doing anything. Data showed that North Korea bought an estimated £1,000 worth of Polish newspapers and magazines in 2019 – and never imported anything again.

China provided the country's elite with perfume worth around £46,000 but has stopped exporting luxury foreign wristwatches, data shows. In 2018, the country sold North Korea to watches worth just £31,000 – worth less than some top Swiss watches – and subsequently stopped registering any trade.

North Korea imported £729,871,000 worth of products from China in 2022 – 98.1 percent of the value of all items.

That figure was higher than 2021 (£188,000,000) and 2020 (£382,000,000), but well below 2018 figures (£1.66 billion).

Britain's total product imports in 2022 were calculated at £665,635,859,000.

These figures do not include trade in services.

Most products purchased from foreign suppliers came from China, followed by the US, Germany, Norway, France, Italy and the Netherlands.

Britain exported £432,570,855,000 worth of products in the same year, the data shows.

These mainly went to the US, the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, China, Switzerland and France.

In contrast, North Korea exported around £253,995,000 worth of goods in 2022, mainly to China, Senegal and Aruba in the Caribbean Sea.

Data on North Korea collected by Trading card is based on bilateral trade flows reported by the country's trading partners.

The fourth victim of a plane crash off the shore of Half Moon Bay last Saturday, has been named as Isaac Zimmern, 27, – the son of a wealthy Zoom executive.

Zimmern was with his longtime girlfriend of more than 10 years, Emma Willmer-Shiles, known as Pearl, who was also 27. The childhood sweethearts were both living in nearby San Francisco.

They were killed in the homemade plane being flown by Australian Lochie Ferrier, an experimental plane pilot who died alongside his venture capitalist fiancée, Cassidy Petit. Willmer-Shile’s body is the only one recovered so far and was spotted by a fishing trawler earlier this week.

Isaac was the son of Johann Zimmern, 59, who is head of Global Education Marketing at Zoom in San Francisco, and lives in a $1.1 million home in the Sunnyside area of the city.

Rescuers with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office have continued to search for the other three occupants.

Ferrier was known in the ‘experimental aircraft’ community and had graduated from MIT in 2019 with aeronautical engineering degree.

He worked at Beta Technologies – an electric plane company.

He moved to California to work at Magpie Aviation in Hayward, which specializes in electric aircraft.

Last October, Ferrier – from Armidale in New South Wales – announced his engagement to Cassidy Petit, a venture capitalist at RH Capital, specializing in reproductive and maternal health, with Ferrier proposing while on vacation in Baja California.

The pair shared a love of the great outdoors, with their social media full of scenes of climbing, surfing, snorkeling, hiking and skiing.

Her final post to Instagram, on January 1, was an engagement photo of the pair of them taken in front of the snow-capped mountains of Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.

The plane took off from Hayward and toured the bay on Sunday afternoon before landing at Half Moon Bay at 5:04pm.

It was on the ground for two hours before departing from Half Moon Bay and crashing shortly after.

Witnesses at the Moss Beach Distillery told NBC Bay Area they saw the plane flying ‘erratically’ before they lost sight of it.

There have been no official indications of what went wrong, but a witness reported hearing an engine losing power and cutting out.

‘They heard the engine sputter, and they kept eyes on the plane until they lost sight of it, just over the horizon,’ said Sgt. Philip Hallworth of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

‘That prompted a search and rescue by the sheriff’s office and coast guard.’

The Cozy Mark IV plane that crashed into the ocean off the California coast last Sunday. The small airplane was constructed piecemeal over nearly a decade in a Michigan basement, garage and backyard, one of tens of thousands of home-built aircraft that are part of a high-flying hobby taking off across the U.S.

The Coast Guard said a helicopter and boat crew looked in a 28-square mile area for nearly six hours on Monday, searching for victims before calling off the search around mid-morning.

Hours later, a woman’s body was spotted floating in the water by a fishing crew.

The unorthodox nature of the plane means that an investigation is more complicated.

The plane was registered to an Oakland-based company called Winged Wallabies, Inc., according to Federal Aviation Administration records.

‘The aircraft itself doesn’t have any flight data or cockpit voice recorders, because it’s such a small, light aircraft,’ said Scott Miller, a pilot and San Jose State University lecturer.

He told KTVU: ‘If there was a mechanical failure of some type, the wreckage would certainly indicate that.

‘Kit planes are flown every day of the week. Sometimes tracking the history of these types of airplanes are a little more difficult.’

The NTSB said a preliminary report into the crash will be completed in two to three weeks.

A probable cause report will take between one and two years. The Federal Aviation Administration is also involved in the investigation.

Thane Ostroth, a retired dentist began building the aircraft in 1999 and flying it in 2008, said he sold the plane last year to a young, experienced and enthusiastic pilot from Australia for around $100,000. Thane is seen alongside his wife, Ellen

Thane Ostroth, a retired dentist began building the aircraft in 1999 and flying it in 2008, said he sold the plane last year to a young, experienced and enthusiastic pilot from Australia for around $100,000.

The cost is about what he estimated went into the project over the decades.

Ostroth said the buyer, in his late 20s, knew a lot about planes. He landed the plane perfectly on his first test flight, which is not easy to do.

‘I told him, `That was well done,´’ Ostroth recalled. ‘He said, `Thank you. I’ll buy the plane.´’

Ostroth said he heard about the crash in an online chat group for pilots and builders of Cozy aircraft, a class of planes constructed by individuals rather than mass-produced by companies.

He said it was ‘traumatic’ to know the plane he had spent so much time on had crashed with people on board.

‘It´s just a horrible feeling,’ Ostroth said.

Like commercial aircraft, all home-built planes are required by the FAA to be inspected annually for air worthiness.

Cozy aircraft have the same safety record as commercially built planes of similar size, said aeronautical engineer Marc Zeitlin, who consults with the National Transportation Safety Board on crash investigations involving Cozy aircraft, including this one.

More than 33,000 amateur-built aircraft are licensed by the FAA, a figure that has tripled since the 1980s.

The administration designates any non-commercial, recreational aircraft as ‘experimental.’

Those can include planes built from kits with some prefabricated parts or from plans in which the builder buys or manufactures and assembles all the parts.

The four-seat Mark IV, at just over 16 feet long with a 28-foot wingspan, is a popular plane among the growing number of aviation hobbyists who build their own aircraft.

Zeitlin owns one himself that he takes on day trips and cross-country voyages.

‘The misconception is that these are put together by baling wire and glue,’ said Zeitlin, CEO of California-based Burnside Aerospace. ‘But they are built using aircraft methodology.’

The Mark IV has a ‘canard’ design, with a small forewing placed to the front of the main wing, making it reminiscent of a duck stretched out in flight. It is lightweight, only about 1,050 pounds  empty, with the parts fitted together with epoxy.

With a top speed approaching 200 mph, it is fast, stable and fuel-efficient, Zeitlin said.

‘Like a sports car in the sky,’ he said. ‘Very fun to fly.’

Ostroth said he bought the plans for his Cozy for about $500 and started putting it together in a friend’s basement in Michigan.

Eventually they moved construction to the home’s garage and then built a barn in the backyard for the final steps.

‘The plans come with a list of authorized suppliers of parts,’ said Ostroth, who now lives in Florida. ‘You buy foam, you buy fiberglass, you buy metal parts from all the manufacturers. And you slowly piece it together.’

Help can be found from other enthusiasts who post tips and advice in online forums.

Ostroth flew the aircraft regularly for 15 years. He called it ‘a wonderful little plane.’
