Taylor Swift’s Australian fans were devastated on Friday when many made a fruitless attempt to buy tickets for her Era tour Down Under.

Twitter was quickly flooded with posts from “defeated and exhausted” fans who had struggled – and failed – to buy tickets to the coveted performance, while also furious that some hopefuls were buying tickets to more than one concert.

General admission tickets for Taylor Swift’s Australian The Eras tour dates in Sydney and Melbourne sold out in hours, with only VIP and Hotel + Ticket packages left for all shows in the country.

Tickets for the Sydney shows went on sale at 10am, while Melbournians jumped online at 2pm to score a seat.

Frontier touring broke the bad news on Twitter to its Sydney-based fans around noon Friday, writing, “AG Reserve is now exhausted. VIP and Hotel + Ticket packages remain valid for all shows in Sydney!’

Following the news, fans swarmed the site, writing: ‘Taylor should have put her shows in every state of Australia and NZ so we all have a better chance of getting tickets… it’s just not fair…

‘A whole day from 10 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. and all tickets gone! for nothing! Feel so defeated! I really believe only people from Australia/New Zealand/Islands should buy the tickets…

“I couldn’t get Taylor Swift tickets, please come to Australia and fill the void… Taylor Swift literally broke Australia. No one is doing work because everyone is trying to get tickets, tickets instantly 2-5x, flights and hotels instantly 4x…

“Someone (other than Taylor Swift) made a lot of money today… Does @taylorswift13 know the chaos that engulfed Australia this beautiful day in June? Taylor. Mrs. Taylor Alison Swift. We call shenanigans….

No, because the battle for Taylor Swift tickets in Australia will be brutal and I’m so scared. What if I don’t get tickets?’

Taylor announced a third Melbourne show at the MCG on February 18 next year and a fourth Sydney concert at Accor Stadium on February 26 as part of The Eras Tour.

The star will become the first artist since Madonna to play three consecutive concerts at the Melbourne Cricket Ground when she takes the stage in February next year, and the first ever to play a fourth consecutive show at Sydney’s Accor Stadium.

The new performances are in addition to the existing concerts in Melbourne on February 16 and 17 and shows in Sydney on February 23, 24 and 25.

Prior to their disappointing blow, avid fans took to social media to tweet Ticketek, begging for seats to one of the shows.

Fans wrote, “This is becoming an obsession. I feel like a stalker!…I’m going to play all of Taylor Swift’s albums and see how long it lasts,” wrote another…

‘Guys, I’m working to serve customers, get me tickets right away, please I’m begging you… How much is a booking/service fee per ticket? Do you have to be sure that you take sufficient account?’

Other fans camped outside Ticketek offices in an attempt to beat online queues.

“3 more hours until the box office opens, but the atmosphere is impeccable,” Swift superfan Bec Sammut said in a viral TikTok video as she waited outside in the dead of winter.

“Camping overnight at the Ticketek office for Taylor Swift tickets because that’s legitimately easier than getting them online,” she wrote.

In yet another bizarre turn of events, Taylor fans in the UK rushed to dating apps in a desperate bid to meet Liverpool season ticket holders who have priority access to the pop star’s Anfield stadium concerts.

‘Swifties’ – the nickname for Taylor’s millions of supporters – fear they won’t be able to get tickets after the singer changed her sales system so bots can’t resell.

Young women across the UK are now changing the location setting on their dating profiles to Liverpool to increase their chances of meeting a nearby football fan – so they can get their tickets from them when Taylor plays there in June 2024.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘If you are a single man in Liverpool and you have an LFC season ticket, Tinder and Hinge will love you.

“Every girl is looking for a guy who has one so they can get their Taylor Swift tickets. I give these girls all due respect for their struggles to get tickets.’

Another said, “I swipe right on Tinder when they say they have Taylor Swift tickets. No luck yet. I will totally match with someone who would hate me for being arm candy on the show.”

Tickets for the Taylor’s Eras tour, currently taking place in the US, are notoriously hard to buy due to the “unprecedented demand” coupled with the use of bots.

Robots that can mimic human activity on a large scale on the Internet have been used to buy limited edition tickets and resell them at a higher cost.

Last year, US politicians were forced to intervene after millions of Swifties were unable to buy Eras tickets after the Ticketmaster site crashed due to bots overwhelming the site.

About 320 fans have filed a lawsuit against Ticketmaster’s parent company Live Nation for at least £1,900 for selling tickets to bots.

To deal with the problem in the UK, Ticketmaster has set up a very complicated booking system to reduce the number of fans who have access to ticket sales.

Advance tickets were available to people who pre-ordered the Midnight’s album before its release or Liverpool season ticket holders.

Taylor will perform five Wembley shows next summer in addition to her two performances in Liverpool, concluding in London on August 17.
