A TEENAGER has been rushed to hospital after allegedly puffing on a vape laced with a zombie drug.

The boy was handed the e-cigarette at the gate of Herne Bay High school Knowsby a friend who bought it online.

When he finished his lessons for the day, the child inhaled the vapor once before immediately collapsing on the school grounds.

Tests conducted have shown that the liquid in the vapor is the deadly drug Spice.

Emergency services rushed to the scene last month where the boy required medical attention before being taken to hospital.

He has since recovered from the horror.

The incident happened just weeks after experts warned about it Spice fumes circulate in Britain.

Headteacher Jon Boyes said in a letter to parents: “The pupil became very unwell very quickly to the point where he collapsed.

“Staff patrolling outside the school managed to intervene and get emergency services to the scene very quickly where clinical interventions were required before the student was taken to hospital.

“It has come to light that the liquid in the vape was purchased online from an unregistered source and we have been informed by doctors that the product is a THC based product that contained Spice – a very dangerous drug.

“Thankfully the student has recovered from this incident, but the clinical team who attended informed us that they have experienced fatalities resulting from the same/similar products.

“We will work closely with police and continue our school education on safe and healthy lifestyle choices.”

What is spice?

The synthetic cannabinoids, collectively known as Spice, consist of a range amphetamines and other lab-made chemicals that vary greatly from batch to batch.

Users smoke, drink or eat spice, often in tea.

Before the ban on psychoactive substances in 2016, it was sold both over the counter and online under various brand names, such as Annihilation and GoCaine.

It is highly addictive and the withdrawal symptoms are said to be worse than quitting crack or heroin.

Users may experience vomiting, to attackterrifying hallucinations and severe psychotic episodes after consuming the drug.

Spices are especially common Birmingham And Manchesterwhere a number of users have been hospitalized after taking the drug.

The substance is sometimes called the ‘zombie drug’ because of the effect it can have on users, who are often left lying around.

A ex-herbal addict described the sensation to Metro, saying: “You feel brain dead half the time. They say people look like zombies, and that’s how it feels.”

The substance was declared unfit for human consumption by the person who invented it.

Organic chemist John Huffmann accidentally created it in 2006 when he was looking for a new way to develop anti-inflammatory drugs.

Two years later, the substance appeared on websites, usually advertised as a form of incense or plant fertilizer.

The drug has been described as being similar to hemp but others have cited effects more similar to powerful hallucinogens such as LSD.

In 2017, an even more dangerous crystal form emerged, believed to be about twenty times more powerful than the ‘regular’ kind.

The incident was reported to Police who did research.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Police in Herne Bay were notified of a medical incident in Bullockstone Road on February 29 which was allegedly caused by drugs in a vape.

“Officers from the district’s Child Centered Policing Team carried out investigations, spoke to those involved and advised them on the risks associated with illicit substances.

“Details of the incident have been recorded to assist officers should a similar report be received.”
