Teen Killed, 9 Injured in US Nighttime Shooting

New Delhi: In another tragic incident of a mass shooting across the United States on Sunday (local time), a teenager was killed and nine others injured in downtown St. Louis. According to CNN, the shooting occurred after 1 a.m. (Central Time) at a building where a party was taking place. Mayor Tishaura Jones confirmed the tragic death of a teenager in the shooting. “On this Father’s Day, families across the St. Louis region woke up to the devastating news of yet another mass shooting,” Mayor Jones said. “It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, tenfold,” Jones said. “My heart goes out to all the families who are experiencing tremendous pain today.
Those who attended will bear the physical and emotional scars left by the gun violence that shattered their lives,” she added.
At a press conference on Sunday, Police Chief Robert Tracy confirmed that a 17-year-old suspect has been taken into custody and an investigation is currently underway. He also stated that the ages of the victims range from 15 to 19 years old.
Tracy went on to say that law enforcement officers recovered an AR-15-style rifle, a handgun and other firearms from the crime scene.
The police are now investigating the owner of the building and the organizers of the party.
Given the alarming increase in mass shootings across the United States, Mayor Jones expressed concern, stating that the places that were once considered safe are no longer.
“There were places to go and things to do and we were safe. Not so much anymore,” she said at a press conference.
“For our babies living in households that are struggling to make ends meet, where can they go to see their friends and have fun?” she added.
St. Louis officials, as reported by CNN, are actively working to create safer environments for children to keep them safe from dangerous areas, including the location where the recent party took place. They use available resources to invest in youth programs, Jones said.
The growing problem of mass shootings in the United States is of growing concern.
US President Joe Biden has consistently advocated for stricter gun laws, expressing concerns about gun crime. In February, he stressed the need for increased resources to combat gun violence and called for the ban on assault weapons to be reinstated in response to the increase in mass shootings.
In his first major address to a divided Congress following the Republican takeover of the House of Representatives, President Joe Biden pointed to the impact of the previous assault weapons ban. He stressed that when the ban was in place, mass shootings decreased, but when it ended, mass shootings tripled. He pushed for the completion of the task by restoring the ban on assault weapons.
