Telangana Assembly Elections: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took a swipe at the previous governments of Telangana and undivided Andhra Pradesh, saying they did not take into account the rights of the Madiga community. He said he had gone to Hyderabad to “atone for the past actions” of those political leaders and parties. At a public meeting in Secunderabad ahead of the state assembly elections, Modi reiterated his party’s commitment to ensuring social justice for the poor and needy. He said the previous governments had neglected the Madiga community, one of the largest scheduled castes in Telangana.

PM Modi speaks about people of Madiga community

“People of Madiga community and Krisha (Manda Krishna Madiga, an MRPS leader), I am not here to ask anything from you; I am here for atonement for past actions of political leaders and political parties since independence, who made promises to you and dumped you. I belong to the political arena, so I apologize to you… You (people) have seen many governments in the country. Our government’s top priority is to prioritize those in need. The mantra of the BJP is Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas,” PM Modi said.

Prime Minister Modi addressed the gathering at Parade Ground in Hyderabad, organized by the Madiga Reserve Porata Samithi, a community organization of Madigas, one of the largest Scheduled Caste voters in the Telugu states. The Prime Minister further said that his party considers Shri Gurram Jashuva and his works in the field of social justice as our inspiration.

“…We are committed to ensuring social justice. We consider Shri Gurram Jashuva and his works in the field of social justice as our source of inspiration. In his literature, he portrayed a Dalit brother who had shared his fate with Baba Vishwanath,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi also praised Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) leader Manda Krishna Madiga and said the leader can consider him as a friend who will help the Madiga community in their struggle.

“Krishna, you may have many friends who were with you to fight for the rights of the Magida community, but today another friend has been added to your list,” the Prime Minister said.

To this end, the MRPS leader stood up and thanked the Prime Minister for showing his gratitude. Ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s speech, Manda Krishna Madiga, leader of Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS), became emotional on stage in Hyderabad. Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi, a community organization of Madigas, is one of the largest scheduled caste voters in the Telugu states.

Since 2013, Prime Minister Modi has worked closely with Manda Krishna Madiga, whose organization MRPS has demanded internal reservations under the Scheduled Caste (SC) category. The MRPS was formed in July 1994 in Edumudi village, Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, under the leadership of Manda Krishna Madiga and others, with the aim of implementing internal reservations.
