I tried Lindt Bunny Dupes – a bargain version was better and 43% cheaper

EASTER is just around the corner and many households are planning to head to the nearest supermarket to grab a Lindt Easter Bunny.

The iconic treat is made from Swiss chocolate and is wrapped in gold foil, tied with a red ribbon collar and finished with a gold bell.

I tested the supermarket bunny dupes with the Lindt original

But many supermarkets and retailers have tried to recreate the Lindt bunny and now have their own dupes.

We’ve scoured the shelves to find the nearest offers at the best price and value for money – here are the results.

Lindt Gold Bunny Milk Chocolate 100g

  • £3.50 (£3 with a club card) – Tesco
  • Price per 100 grams: € 3.50

The Lindt bunny is an Easter classic and households rush to buy them

There’s nothing like the traditional Lindt bunny and the gold packaging is just beautiful.

The chocolate is luscious and smooth and it’s safe to say it’s hard to beat.

Price-wise, though, the original costs more than any of the dupe bunnies we’ve tried, and while it tastes great, I find the price tag hard to justify.

I picked up my bunny from Tesco as they currently cost £3 with a Clubcard and £3.50 without.

The price of this chocolate treat changes constantly over the Easter period, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the shops for a good deal.

M&S Baby Bunny Swiss Milk Chocolate 100g

  • £2.50
  • Price per 100 grams: € 2.50

I expected big things from the M&S bunny and honestly I wasn’t disappointed.

Of all the Easter bunnies I tried, I thought the packaging for this was one of the prettiest out there and it would make a cute gift.

The chocolate was smooth and milky and gave the unmistakable feeling of quality you would expect from M&S.

‘People are filling up trolleys’ – Tesco shoppers rush to snap up Cadbury bargains

I think it is closest in taste to the traditional Lindt bunny.

But unfortunately it’s still a bit pricey for me and I think there are other dupes on the market that taste just as good for a lot less.

Sainsbury’s Milk Chocolate Easter Bunny 100g

  • £1.50
  • Price per 100 grams: € 1.50

Sainsbury’s Easter Bunny is also beautifully presented

Sainsbury’s chocolate bunny is also beautifully packaged, almost on par with M&S.

I can imagine this being a popular choice for parents who want to treat their kids to an iconic golden bunny without the huge price tag.

But the real chocolate is what lets the treat down the most. It just couldn’t compare in taste to Lindt’s version or M&S’s bunny.

It was smooth, but I didn’t find myself desperate to take another bite.

However, the price tag is quite reasonable at half the price of the Lindt original.

Asda’s Milk Chocolate Sitting Bunny 100g

  • £1.50

The Asda bunny looks cute, but it was a bit of a disappointment when I tasted it

Sadly, I was disappointed with Asda’s rabbit dupe as it just didn’t meet my expectations taste-wise.

The chocolate was quite bland and reminded me of the treats you get in a bargain advent calendar.

It just didn’t have the same delicious, luxurious taste or texture as Lindt or M&S bunnies.

I think there are better Easter bunnies on the market for a similar or better price.

Lidl Favorina Chocolate Rabbit 125g

  • £1.99 for 125 grams
  • Price per 100 grams: € 1.59
The Easter bunny from Lidl was my winner

The Easter bunny from Lidl was my winner

When I tasted the Lidl bunny dupe, it was love at first bite.

The chocolate was luxurious, but not so rich that you couldn’t eat the entire bunny in one sitting.

Even though it wasn’t much like Lindt’s original, I didn’t care because I actually thought it was better – and for a fraction of the price.

This bunny is actually bigger than most supermarket versions too, so it’s definitely my winner in terms of taste, looks and value.

Aldi’s Dairyfine Milk Chocolate Bunny 125g

  • £1.39 for 125 grams
  • Price per 100g: £1.11

The chocolate bunny from Aldi was also a winner

At first glance I was a little put off by Aldi’s chocolate bunny as the packaging looked a bit messy and it felt quite cheap.

However, what it lacked in appearance it more than made up for in taste.

Although it was nothing like Lindt’s original, I personally preferred how it tasted.

It was rich and creamy and felt very indulgent, like I was eating a luxury product.

The chocolate itself was smooth and milky and left a very pleasant aftertaste.

Like Lidl, you get a little more chocolate with Aldi’s product compared to Lindt and other major supermarkets, and for considerably less money.

You only pay €1.11 per 100 grams, compared to €3.50 at Lindt.

Farmfoods Milk Chocolate Bunny 100g

Farmfoods Bunny was the cheapest we tested

Farmfoods Bunny was the cheapest we tested

Farmfoods’ Easter offer was the cheapest we tested and, to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised.

I imagine the shiny purple packaging will be attractive to kids and the 99 cent price tag will be a welcome surprise for parents.

When I first opened the package I was hit with a wonderful chocolatey smell and upon my first taste it was quite flavorful.

But the chocolate left an aftertaste similar to standard cooking chocolate, and I realized it wasn’t as luxurious as some other supermarket dupes.

But if you’re looking for a cheap and cheerful treat, Farmfoods’ bunny is not one to turn your nose up at.

Hotel Chocolat Chocolate Rabbert Hol 93g

  • £7.95 – Hotel Chocolate
  • Price per 100 grams: €8.55
Hotel Choclat's bunny was the most expensive of the bunch

11

Hotel Choclat’s bunny was the most expensive of the bunch

The Hotel Chocolat bunny is the only one I tested that is 100% vegan and I was amazed.

If I hadn’t known in advance, I would never have known that the chocolate did not contain milk or egg.

The chocolate itself is very rich and you don’t need to eat a lot of it to feel full and satisfied.

It tasted more like dark chocolate than the milk chocolate Lindt bunny, but I enjoyed it immensely.

Although I was blown away by the taste, the price tag is enormous.

The rabbit does come with an extra jar of chocolate buttons, but I still find it difficult to justify the hefty price tag.

Thorntons Milk Chocolate Bunny, 90g

  • £2.50 – Ocado
  • Price per 100 grams: € 2.78
The Thorntons bunny was adorable

The Thorntons bunny was adorable

This Thorntons bunny is made of milk chocolate with white chocolate dots on it.

It looks cute and I think it’s a must-try for all true chocolate Easter bunny fans.

I found the chocolate to be very rich and I think I could only get a little bit out of it at a time.

It didn’t taste much like the Lindt bunny either, but I imagine it’s still a popular alternative.

But I love the design and the price tag is reasonable too.

Aldi’s specially selected milk chocolate hazelnut bunny 125g

  • £1.69

Aldi also sells a chocolate hazelnut bunny

Aldi also sells a chocolate hazelnut bunny

In addition to the milk chocolate hazelnut rabbit, Aldi also sells a milk chocolate hazelnut rabbit in its Easter range.

Although this bunny has a completely different flavor, it most closely resembles the classic Lindt bunny.

There is even a small tag around the neck, similar to the bell worn by the original.

The bunny tastes just like Ferrero Rocher, which I was very happy with, because I’m a big fan of that chocolate.
