Royal friend Harry Legge-Bourke has been left stunned after discovering that the Royal National Lifeboat Institution had rejected a donation on the grounds that it came from yacht supporters.

Harry, whose sister Tiggy was Prince William and Harry’s beloved nanny, revealed: ‘I have just seen a letter from RNLI refusing to accept donations from a yacht in the countryside close to the sea which has been raising money for RNLI because it does not want to accept donations from an organization that is not ‘consistent’ with RNLI values. I’m baffled. Welcome to 2024!’

The former Welsh Guards captain is referring to a fundraising event to be held tomorrow by the Dungarvan Foxhounds Supporters’ Club in Ireland, where fox hunting remains legal.

A spokesman for the RNLI suggested it would also reject donations from hunting supporters in Britain, where fox hunting was banned in 2004.

Instead, dogs now follow an artificial scent.

“While fox hunting continues in some areas where the RNLI operates, the charity has decided to refuse donations in connection with the activity and therefore remove requests for volunteers who may not wish to support such a fundraising request,” the spokesperson said. me.

Gary McCartney, director of Countryside Alliance Ireland, said: ‘It is disappointing that a charity that provides such an important service is refusing donations raised by the rural community taking part in a perfectly legal activity.

‘We sincerely hope that the RNLI will reconsider their position and work with rural residents in the future, rather than alienating them.’
