Tiffany Haddish jokes about going to jail in Beverly Hills after a drunk driving charge
Tiffany Haddish is moving on from her recent DUI.
“You didn’t live until you got arrested in Beverly Hills, okay. It’s beautiful there. I’ve been to quite a few prisons, just like all of you,” Haddish, 44, joked during her Christmas set at The Laugh Factory in Los Angeles on Monday, December 25, according to a video obtained by TMZ. “If you’re going to do something, get arrested there, because that prison is fun.”
We weekly confirmed late last month that Haddish was arrested for drunken driving after she reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. She broke her silence about the incident – her second DUI offense in two years – days later.
“I’m going to get some help so I can learn balance and boundaries,” Haddish said Entertainment tonight on Nov. 27, adding that “this will never happen again.” The comedian did say that despite the arrest, she was in “good spirits.”
Haddish was charged earlier this month by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with two DUI violations – driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent.
“Drink-driving poses an immediate threat to our community, with consequences that extend beyond individual actions to inflict profound harm, including the devastating loss of life,” the representative of the LA County District Attorney’s Office said. We weekly in a statement. “It is crucial for everyone to pause and consider the potential impact on others, especially during these holidays as many attend the celebrations with their loved ones.”
The statement ended with the “hope” that Haddish “takes these drunk driving allegations seriously and considers the well-being of everyone in our community moving forward.”
Us confirmed on December 20 that counsel had entered a not guilty plea on Haddish’s behalf in a Los Angeles court. A hearing is scheduled for February 14, 2024.
Haddish’s friend and former manager Tony Mercedes told exclusively Us earlier this month that Haddish was “on her annual vacation in Hawaii” before the holidays.
“She restarts herself for the coming year,” Mercedes said Us. “Her spirits are high and she remains positive about the outcome of her current legal battle.”
By 2024, Haddish explores the “restructuring and reorganization” of her life, “her business and her brand.”
“Someone has to make sure she’s on her toes and make sure they keep an eye on what kind of movements she’s making,” Mercedes continued. “Does she move to the left and maybe say, let’s move to the right. Find the right person to make sure she doesn’t stray from the path.”
