Most Popular Names of 2023 Revealed: New Girls Name Pushes Lily Out of Top Place After Boom in Popularity Linked to Princess Lilibet
The most popular baby names of 2023 have been revealed, with a new top spot on the girls’ list – although that may not come as a surprise.
While Mohammed continues to reign for boys, a girl’s name previously pushed out of the top spot has once again secured the crown, according to BabyCentre, the leading pregnancy and parenting destination.
In new data obtained by the mirrorOlivia has returned to the number one spot for 2023, partly due to the way BabyCentre ranks her name.
The parenting platform now considers all spellings of a name as separate entries. Although Sophia was one of the most popular names in the country, the rankings have dropped significantly since ‘Sophia’ and ‘Sofia’ were categorized separately.
It means Lily, who took first place in the half-year results and was previously attributed to Princess Lilibet, has had her crown stolen by an old favorite, Olivia.

‘Parents spend a lot of time thinking about their baby’s name, but also about its spelling. They may be small, but these differences are important to parents, so we will now include all individual spellings of baby names in our charts,” BabyCentre spokeswoman Faye Mingo told the Mirror.
The expert parenting platform released its half-year data earlier in July, putting Lily at the top of the girls’ list, followed by Sophia and Olivia.
However, Lily has since fallen to fourth place, while Amelia and Isla claim second and third places.

According to BabyCentre, the once trendy baby names ‘Harry’ and ‘Meghan’ have declined in popularity in Britain.
While Harry has fallen from 13th place to number 31, Meghan and the alternative spelling Megan have also fallen in registrations.
Previously, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first names saw a huge rise in popularity among new parents. But it seems these names now have negative connotations due to their feud with the royal family.
It comes amid an ongoing racing row following the release of Omid Scobie’s book, Endgame, in November.
The author defended his work on British television and refused to take blame for the racism scandal over the naming of two royals in the Dutch translation, stating: “I have never submitted a book in which those names appear.”
The Sussexes’ favorite royal writer has roundly blamed the publisher in the Netherlands – and denied it was part of a money-grubbing ‘stunt’ to distribute more copies worldwide.
