Traveler reveals her list of the most overrated holiday destinations… and why she HATES Paris

An Australian travel influencer has used TikTok to share her most overrated and underrated destinations in Europe.

Jacki, posting under the handle @jetsetting_jackiregularly makes videos with travel tips for different locations for her 23,000 followers.

In a recent post, she listed five places for each category and gave her reasons why, but not everyone agrees.

The clip has already been seen by more than 115,000 people, with commentators offering their own opinions.

She captioned the TikTok: 'So many European destinations are over hyped but this is just my opinion so make up your mind 100% and tell me what you think! Which one do you want to fight with me?'

Five overrated European destinations

Paris

Kicking off Jacki's overrated list is none other than the capital of France.

She admitted, “So, honestly, I absolutely hate Paris.

'I've been to the city three times now and felt unsafe. It was dirty, the people were not very nice.

'I just didn't enjoy my time in Paris at all and that's why it's on my overrated list of European places.'

One viewer agreed: “Paris is under-hated [sic] and overrated,” while a second insisted: “I love Paris…you can't change your mind. Certain areas are definitely overhyped, but it's still a beautiful city.”

Amsterdam

She continues: 'The following is a bit controversial, but Paris on the list is now in Amsterdam and I thought the partying there was quite overrated.

“It just wasn't as good as people hyped it up and yes, I know there are a few things that are legal there that aren't legal in other places, but that just didn't make it good – I don't know.”

However, commenters argued back with: 'Amsterdam is great, just avoid the touristy places after the first day' and 'Amsterdam is the best city I've been to'.

A third pleaded: 'Amsterdam is the best city in the world. You have to give it another chance!'

Mykonos

Third on the list is a place the influencer describes as “totally overrated” and says she “wouldn't even bother going there”: Mykonos.

Jacki explained: I don't know if this is just because I'm so in love with Ios, but Mykonos was so expensive.

“It was busy, people were really stupid and they loved it because they were in Mykonos and better than you.”

She added: 'Music was s*** too and the boys were so creepy, just so creepy.'

Magaluf

Fourth on the list is a popular British holiday destination, best known for its wild nightlife: Magaluf.

The travel professional explained: 'Oh my God, I thought I was going to be old when I started it, but I have never felt older in my life than when I went to Magaluf.

'I've heard really good things about the rest of Mallorca so maybe I should go back and go there, but Magaluf was the dirtiest, most disgusting place I've ever been.'

Commenters joked: 'How did Magaluf make this list?' and 'Who judges Magaluf?', alongside laughing emojis.

A third wrote: 'Magaluf is known across Europe as a place you shouldn't go – dingy and full of minors, it's definitely not highly rated.'

Island of Capri

The final destination on Jacki's overrated list is the Italian island of Capri, located in the Bay of Naples.

She revealed: 'I like it here on the island of Capri, it's beautiful, I've been there twice now.

'But it's so busy and so small and all the shops and stuff are so expensive.

“Like, I can't afford to be there. I think it would be great if you were rich and had a sugar daddy.”

Five underestimated European destinations

Sicily

On the way to her five most underrated destinations, TikToker mentioned the Italian region of Sicily.

She reminisces, “I was there a few years ago and I can't wait to go back.

“It was great, it was cheap, it was beautiful, a lot less tourists.”

One viewer agreed: 'Sicily is fantastic, great beaches and fantastic hidden gem villages.'

However, another commenter argued: 'Went to Palermo, Sicily in 2002, the biggest dump I've been to'.

Another wrote: 'Sicily is one of the poorest regions of Italy and there is almost nothing to see and do unless you just want to stay on the beach all day or eat pasta, a big no for me.'

Scandinavia

Jacki continues: 'Then Scandinavia. I feel like a lot of Australians don't put this on their European itinerary, but I studied in Sweden for six months and it was amazing guys.

'I loved it there – I visited Copenhagen and Norway, they were all great.

'The only place I didn't like was Helsinki, but everything else was so nice.'

Although viewers were quick to point out that Finland is not part of Scandinavia.

Another traveler chimed in: 'Scandinavia is nice, but don't go to Oslo. So expensive and not that different from Gothenburg or Stockholm'.

Meanwhile, someone else argued: 'How do you get along in Scandinavia as one place? It's several countries'.

Malta

Thirdly, she talks about Malta – famous for its beautiful coastline and breathtaking landscapes.

Jacki revealed: 'Malta is literally one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

'The beaches were beautiful, the partying was also a lot of fun and I feel like it's still a bit quieter than some other European destinations.'

Viewers had similar experiences, adding: 'Malta is a hidden gem, it's a beautiful place. I'm going back this year' and 'Malta is great'.

Others wrote: 'Malta is the best' and 'Malta is my favorite place'.

San Sebastian

In fourth place among the last underrated content creators is the Spanish city of San Sebastian.

She told viewers: 'Literally the best food I've ever eaten in my life – you have to go.

“It was so beautiful, it was chill, it was fun.”

A fellow fan agreed, writing: 'Agree about San Sebastian, it's the best. I could easily live there – good atmosphere, beaches, mountains close by, food is great'.

A second praised: 'San Sebastian is the most beautiful city in Europe, the best food within a country mile'.

Iceland

Finally, the travel professional talks about Iceland, even though he has never been there.

She explained: 'This is one I haven't been to yet but I know it will literally be incredible and that's Iceland.

“I feel like a lot of people don't put this on their bucket list, but it looks insane and I just know I'm going to love it.”

But others believe it should have been on the overrated list, with one user writing: 'Iceland is a bit overrated, underrated are the Baltics, the people there are amazing'.

Another agreed: 'Iceland is not underrated, it's so popular now'.
