Trista Sutter sets the record straight about what her husband, Ryan Sutterwhispered to her on the Golden wedding.

If Gerry Turner And Theresa Nist exchanging vows live on ABC Thursday, January 4, fans of Bachelor Nation watched as the first Golden Bachelor promised to make his wife-to-be the “happiest woman on earth.” After his heartfelt promise, the camera then panned to 49-year-old Ryan, who softly spoke into Trista’s ear as the couple sat next to the other wedding guests.

Viewers soon took to social media in an attempt to read Ryan’s lips, with some claiming the reality star said Gerry, 71, making 70-year-old Theresa happy would ‘never happen’. However, Trista clarified the ‘lip-reading errors’ that misdeciphered her husband’s words the next day – and slammed trolls who tried to cause friction.

“Since I was the one Ryan spoke to, I can clarify this,” Trista, 51, said wrote via X on Friday, January 5, before sharing Ryan’s actual (very romantic) words. “He said ‘the second happiest’ [person in the world]. Please don’t look for drama when there is only love.”

Trista’s clarification comes less than a month after Ryan made headlines for revealing that the couple, who tied the knot in 2003, had had a bumpy year together.

“They never said it would be easy, but this year has without a doubt been one of the craziest, most challenging and most unpredictable years of our twenties we have now spent together,” Ryan wrote in a Instagram tribute in celebration of the pair’s 20th anniversary in December 2023. “Major change and heartbreaking loss tested our resolve. “We left a community and friends and a lifestyle – a safe haven – for a new adventure and a new home. We struggled and we cried. We laughed and we loved. We did it all and we did it together, as we always have.

He continued: “You and I, hand in hand, heart to heart. It started for millions of people, but today it’s just us. No wedding special, no marching band, no red carpet. Just love. That’s all we ever needed. I love you @tristasutter, now and forever. Happy birthday!!! HIF❤️.”

For her part, Trista also honored their relationship milestone with a heartfelt message. “From these words of affirmation, girl, thank you darling for your words and especially for your love. ❤️,” she wrote in the comments section of her husband’s post. “You are my safe haven, my happy place and my absolute favorite love story. This is about life and taking risks. 🥂 HIF.”

Trista and Ryan met in season 1 of The Bachelorette, tying the knot in December 2003 during their own ABC special, Trista and Ryan’s wedding. They welcomed son Max in July 2007 and daughter Blakesley arrived in April 2009.

Throughout their two decades together, the couple has certainly experienced their fair share of ups and downs.
