The president learned of the shocking news from Charles before meeting with culinary staffers in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He answered questions less than two hours after the palace announced in a statement Monday evening that the king has cancer.

The monarch has returned to London from Sandringham to begin treatment immediately.

His condition is not related to his recent medical procedure for an enlarged prostate, and is not prostate cancer.

The palace did not say what form of cancer he has.

The king is said to have personally informed his sons Prince William and Prince Harry of his condition.

Harry will fly from the US to London in the coming days to be by his father's side as he begins treatment.
