UP Shocker: Man attacks bus conductor with cleaver for ‘insulting prophet’
UP Shocker: The suspect indulged in a dispute with the bus conductor over the ticket price after which he attacked him with a meat cleaver and ran away.
Prayagraj: A shocking incident has emerged in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj where a 20-year-old man attacked a bus conductor with a meat cleaver on Friday after a dispute over ticket price. The suspect recorded a video in which he confessed to his crime, claiming that he attacked the conductor for “insulting the Prophet Mohammed.” He tried to escape from police but ended up in an encounter after being shot in the leg. According to Prayagraj police, Lareb Hashmi attacked the bus conductor on Friday morning after indulging in a dispute with the bus conductor, Harikesh Vishwakarma (24), over the ticket price.

After the verbal altercation, Hashmi, a first-year engineering student, mercilessly attacked Vishwakarma with a cleaver. The bus conductor suffered serious injuries to his neck and other parts of his body.
After attacking the conductor, Hashmi jumped off the bus and entered the university campus to hide.

Inside the university, he allegedly recorded a video of him and uploaded it on social media. The alleged clip shows the suspect confessing to the crime and accusing the victim of indulging in blasphemy and “insulting Prophet Muhammad”.
You can also see him brandishing the cleaver he used to dismember the conductor. He also took the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath in the video.
Another video circulating on the internet shows Hashmi running outside with the cleaver in hand.
According to the driver of the bus, Mangla Yadav, “Suddenly an attack took place inside the bus. I heard a noise and then the bus stopped.” He stated that they rushed Vishwakarma to a hospital for medical treatment.

Police arrested Hashmi from the university where he was hiding. Later in the day, when a police team took him to recover the gun he used to attack the bus conductor, he allegedly shot at them and tried to escape.
In the police’s retaliatory fire, Hashmi suffered a bullet wound to his leg and was arrested. He is currently being treated for the bullet wound.
Giving details, Abhinav Tyagi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Yamunanagar area in Prayagraj, said, “After the incident, the accused was arrested by the police and a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Further research is ongoing.”
DCP Tyagi added that Hashmi lives in Hajiganj area of Prayagraj and is a first-year student at United Engineering College.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
His father, Mohammed Yunus, runs a poultry farm in the city.
