Zurich, Switzerland: The FIFA Council has unanimously designated the United States to host the new and expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup to take place in 2025, at the meeting to be held via video conference from FIFA’s home base.

The host selection process took into account infrastructure and service requirements, as well as broader strategic objectives for the tournament.

The decision was made based on the United States’ position as a proven leader in hosting global events and because it would allow FIFA to maximize synergies with the implementation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, benefiting both tournaments and the development of soccer in the North American region.

As a next step, FIFA will work with relevant stakeholders to finalize the dates, venues and match schedule for this new tournament.

“The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be the pinnacle of elite professional men’s club football, and with the required infrastructure and tremendous local interest, the United States is the ideal host to launch this new global tournament,” said the chairman. FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

“With some of the world’s best clubs already qualified, in two years time fans from every continent will be bringing their passion and energy to the United States for this important milestone in our mission to make football truly global.”

The allocation of slots per confederation and the main access principles were already confirmed by the FIFA Council earlier this year.
