Lively global summit in Gujarat: 'Help mainstream Kashmir, invest'; Amit Shah urges industrialists

Lively global summit in GujaratHome Minister Amit Shah issued a strong appeal to Gujarati industrialists to expand their operations and invest generously in Kashmir to help realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to bring the insurgency-torn valley to the attention of the to bring it into the mainstream.

Speaking at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, the Union Home Minister appealed to industrialists in Gujarat to expand their operations in the northern part of the country, especially Kashmir.

“I would like to say to the Gujarati industrialists, if they want to expand to the north, please invest in Kashmir. By doing so, please support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to mainstream Kashmir,” Shah said in his speech, with Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha in the audience.

Using the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit as a platform, Sinha also made a similar appeal to investors to visit and participate in the Union Territory.

'Kashmir has changed in the last four years'

Manoj Sinha said he has signed as many as seven MoUs for investments in Jammu and Kashmir. Emmar Group is developing a 10 million sq ft area in the Union Territory, with UAE-based Lulu Group using two floors for a shopping centre.

“The condition of Jammu and Kashmir has changed a lot in the last four years. The New Industrial Scheme that the Government of India created for investment in J&K, so I would say that today the highest incentive is generated from here (because of this scheme). Poverty is also less in J&K,” Sinha said.

Since the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, the central government has been looking at bringing in major investments in the region, which has been embattled for decades.

Shah fights for 'Vibrant Gujarat model'

Amit Shah claimed that the Vibrant Gujarat model has been copied and accepted by several states across the country.

“Many states have followed the industrial model of Gujarat,” Shah said.

“India has become the best place to invest at the global level. And in India, Gujarat is the best destination for investment,” he said. “Gujarat is the gateway to Viksit Bharat (a developed India by 2047). It is our duty to keep trust intact.”

Speaking of Gujarat, Shah made special mention of Gift City and Dholera Smart City, which have emerged as the two prominent growth engines of the state's industrialization over the past two decades.

“The way Modi ji has made Gujarat a policy-driven state, and Bhupendra bhai has made this progress, I believe investors from all over the world are keen to invest in India.”

Further, Shah also asserted that India's space sector has the potential to expand. Citing a study, he said the country's space industry is poised to rise from $9 billion today to $40 billion by 2040.

Lively global summit in Gujarat

The 10th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. The theme of this year's three-day summit is 'Gateway to the Future' and includes the participation of 34 partner countries and 16 partner organizations.

The summit is also being used as a platform by the Ministry of Development of the Northeast Region to highlight investment opportunities in the Northeast regions.
