Srinagar: Early on Saturday morning, a massive fire broke out in Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake, destroying properties worth tens of millions of rupees. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident, officials confirmed. According to a fire and emergency services official, the fire broke out near Ghat number 9 of Dal Lake around 5.15 am.

According to initial reports, at least five houseboats and three cabins were damaged. The fire, believed to have started from a houseboat at Ghat number 9, quickly spread and engulfed four other houseboats, leaving a path of destruction, Hindustan Times reported.

The actual cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Preliminary reports indicate that a short circuit may have led to the incident.
