VIRGIN Media O2 has revealed it will now buy your old PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch from you – here’s how much you can get.

Savvy gamers with an old console collecting dust will be happy to know they can get some cash for their old tech.

Virgin Media previously launched its O2 Recycle programme, which sees cash for old phones sent directly into users’ bank accounts.

But the telecom giant has now renewed its program with gaming consoles.

Under the updated plan, Brits could earn up to £280 depending on the console lurking under your TV.

Eligible consoles include PlayStation, Xbox, Oculus and Nintendo.

Once received, Virgin Media will repair or recycle the gadgets for resale.

Besides consoles. MacBook owners can also cash in on their old laptops, with some fetching more than £1,200.

The payout also applies to telephone users.

A 128GB iPhone 12 can fetch as much as £210 through O2 Recycle if it’s in ‘excellent’ condition.

If the condition of your device does not meet these standards, the proposed price will obviously decrease.

This move is an attempt to contribute to the reduction of electronic waste going to landfill.

Speaking about the update, Dana Haidan, Chief Sustainability Officer at Virgin Media O2, said: “We’ve boosted O2 Recycle for consoles and MacBooks, making it even easier for people to trade their unwanted tech for cash and help save the planet. to protect. by saving their device from the landfill.

“With almost four million devices recycled and £340 million paid out, O2 Recycle is leading the UK’s circular economy and giving technology a second life so it can be used again and again.”

Research from Virgin Media 02 has found that Brits have up to 15 million unused mobile phones and just under 3 million tablets scattered around their homes.

Executive Director of Recycle Your Electricals Scott Butler added: “We all have a ‘drawer of doom’ full of electrical equipment, including cables, spare plugs, telephones and for some of us, a stash of spare games consoles and accessories.

“Now is the time to cash in on your old electrical appliances.”

But there are other ways to get extra money for your old appliances.

Competing phone recycling scheme Envirofone will cough up £260 for an iPhone 12.

It is recommended that you do a price comparison between a number of recycling schemes including EE, Mazuma Mobile, WeBuyAnyPhone and CeX to get the highest sales figures.

Trade-in schemes

For those looking for a new smartphone, trading in your old phone is a proven way to ensure you pay less.

For example, Apple offers a trade-in service that promises to give you between £30 and £630 for a new iPhone or other Apple device.

Elsewhere, Samsung will give you Trade-In money towards a new device, but promises an ‘instant’ discount, meaning you don’t have to wait to get credit.
