New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman is all set to replace his ex-teammate Rahul Dravid as the next coach of the Indian men’s cricket team.

Not all of Dravid is interested in renewing his BCCI contract and that has now made Laxman the top contender for the job, according to a report by TOI.

”Laxman has expressed his enthusiasm for the job. During the World Cup, Laxman traveled to Ahmedabad to meet BCCI top bosses about the matter. He is likely to sign a long-term contract with the Team India coach and will certainly travel with the team in that capacity for the upcoming tour of South Africa, which will be his first as a full-time head coach,” a BCCI source told TOI. .

”Dravid has made it known that he does not want to continue as a full-time coach. For almost two decades, he has traveled with the Indian team as a player, and in recent years, he has been going through the same rut again, which he does not want to experience. He is fine with the role at the head of the NCA there, which allows him to stay in his hometown of Bengaluru. As before, he is fine with coaching the team sporadically but not again as a full-time coach,” the source further added.

Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the national team in November 2021 and in his two-year stint, he has led the team to a runner-up finish in the World Test Championship and in the ICC World Cup. But he won the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, the only major trophy India won under his tenure.

The source also revealed that Dravid is also in talks with an IPL team on a two-year deal.

“He is in talks with an IPL team on a big two-year contract,” the source also added.
