A speeding car rammed a police officer at breakneck speed at a checkpost in Jalandhar district of Punjab on Friday.

Punjab News: A police officer suffered serious injuries after a car traveling at high speed rammed him at a check post in Jalandhar in Punjab. The gruesome incident was captured on a security camera installed near the checkpoint and the footage went viral on social media platforms.

In the viral footage, a police officer, later identified as Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Surjit Singh, is seen standing at the hi-tech check post at Sutlej river in Shahkot area when a speeding car hits him and drags along. several meters and throws him into the air before escaping.

ASI Singh can be seen standing in the middle of the road and signaling to stop the driver who was coming from Moga Road. However, the car continues to rush towards the police officer at breakneck speed and rams him. The impact was so severe that Singh was thrown several meters into the area, fell to the ground and crashed into a road divider, causing serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle fled after the crash and is being traced, police said, adding that ASI Surjit Singh sustained serious injuries in the incident and is in critical condition.

A senior official said the police have registered a case against the unidentified driver and efforts are on to trace him and bring him to justice.

Four people killed and one injured when truck rammed into car in Tarn Taran

In a related incident, four people were killed while one was seriously injured when a car they were traveling in collided with a truck in Tarn Taran district of Punjab on Friday. According to police, the accident took place at Harike Bypass on the Amritsar-Bathinda National Highway as visibility was very poor due to fog.

The five people traveling in the car had gone to Amritsar for a pilgrimage and started their return journey from Amritsar to Guru Har Sahai in Ferozpur district late at night, police said.

The driver was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries, an official said.
