While most moms are happy to be involved in wedding preparations, this Reddit user wasn’t too thrilled with her daughter’s (20) outfit choice.

The proud mother recalled the argument in the ‘Am I the A**hole’ subreddit, explaining that the bride-to-be was desperate to wear her dress.

While this normally wouldn’t be a problem, the 45-year-old Redditor said she declined because the tiny dress would require drastic adjustments.

“My daughter wouldn’t just borrow it either,” the original poster complained: “She’s much bigger than me and all she wants to do is use the fabric and change it, irreversibly…she’s a size 14 and the dress is a size 4.”

To make matters worse, the dress was a beloved family heirloom and was lovingly made by the anonymous woman’s mother.

Further on, she wrote: “[That probably] makes me ah…[it] is that it is something that many women have done and it is a beautiful tradition.

“But for me that’s just not possible. I love this dress. I was the one who designed it and my mother, who was an excellent seamstress, made it for me [and] this is the last piece I have that she made.

Unfortunately, the bride couldn’t understand why her mother was so sentimental about the dress.

With only a few months until the big day, their relationship has completely broken down.

“Now she’s angrily telling everyone I’m a cold-hearted witch who hates her,” the message said, with the woman also criticized by her sister, who claims the dress isn’t worth making the bride ‘sad’.

The woman was torn about keeping her daughter happy and saving her beloved dress, admitting she had been upset because people couldn’t understand her point of view.

Her post ended with, “I love my daughter to the moon and back, but I don’t understand why she shouldn’t have to hear no just because she’s getting married.

“Even if she was the right size and wouldn’t change the dress, isn’t it strange to disrespect other people’s property, regardless of whether it’s your mother.”

Almost immediately, the thread went viral and many people were shocked by the daughter’s response to the request.

One user pointedly wrote: ‘Your daughter sounds very young and unkind when she scolds you. She would remake your dress in a permanent way so that it suits her [but] it keeps precious memories for you as it is.

They added: “It sounds like she could benefit from waiting to get married until she is more mature.”

“I’m a tailor and I had an aneurysm just trying to imagine how the daughter would get that dress altered.”

Many others agreed, while another compared the argument to a classic romcom, saying, “I kept thinking of the movie 27 Dresses where the sister destroyed their mother’s dress for bits and pieces and then left some scraps on her sister offered.”

“I’m a tailor and had an aneurysm just trying to imagine how the daughter would get that dress altered,” argued a third, adding: “And with the cost of manual labor it’s cheaper to just make clothes to buy. new material.”

The user then suggested that the mother pay for a seamstress to make the dress to her size so that the daughter could then “customize it to her liking.”

Others suggested lending the 20-something another heirloom for her big day, such as a veil or jewelry.

“I’m not saying her behavior warrants any kind of reward, but I think it could be a nice gesture/olive branch to show that you care about her and that she wants something from you on her big day,” explained a fourth out.

With the wedding still a few months away, we hope this bridezilla realizes her mistake in time.
