'Please stay open,' fans shout as Wetherspoons provides an update on the closures

WETHERSPOON fans may need to find a new local one soon as there are even more sites about to close for good.

Punters could lose as many as 19 Wetherspoon watering holes as more venues close and prepare to close their doors.

The Sun can exclusively reveal that The White Hart in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, will close on March 15 as it passes to new ownership.

Meanwhile, Resolution in Middlesborough has already closed its doors and the chain will end its lease on June 23.

Commenting on the new one on Facebook, one punter said: “It was always busy and right in the center next to the bus station.

“I have no idea why this would be closed.”

Another said: “I don't understand why it's closed!”

But it's not all bad news for Wetherspoons fans as the Sennockian in Sevenoaks has been taken off sale and remains open.

The Plow and Harrow in London has been removed from the sales list on the Savills estate agents website, but its future as part of the chain remains uncertain.

But for now it will remain open and trade like a Wetherspoons.

It comes after Wetherspoons confirmed that London's Rochester Castle will be sold, thirty years after it first became a Wetherspoons.

And dozens of other locations remain for sale.

Spoons also announced the sale of a popular pub in Edinburgh.

The Foot of the walk bar in Edinburgh Leith is also on the market because a sewer pipe burst under the building.

Plus The Sun exclusively revealed that The Quay in Poole, Dorset would be coming onto the market.

Regulars have since shared their sadness over the decision on social media.

A Wetherspoons fab said: “Another bites the dust.”

Another shouted: “So I'm losing my favorite summer location.”

While a third commented: “We really don't need another large vacant building on the quayside.”

And another begged: “Please keep an open mind.”

The chain – which has 827 pubs across Britain – warned last September that it would put dozens of pubs up for sale.

The Percy Shaw in Halifax called in its last orders on Jan. 7 after Wetherspoon sold the location to a new owner.

There are almost half a dozen pubs still for sale, with fourteen locations currently on offer.

This means that a buyer has made an offer that is being considered by the seller.

This does not mean the sale is guaranteed, and the sale may still remain open if not completed.

The five pubs for sale are as follows:

  • The Pontlottyn, Abertillery
  • The Ivor Davies, Cardiff
  • The Market Cross, Holywell
  • Rochester Castle, London
  • Foot of the walk, Edinburgh

There are currently 14 Wetherspoons locations on offer:

It comes at a time when a number of British pubs have closed their doors for good in a turbulent economic context.

Rising energy and labor costs are putting further pressure on companies.

But Wetherspoons continues to sell and excite its loyal fan base.

From March 6, punters will have the chance to sample a range of 30 different real ales, including five from overseas brewers.

The festival lasts 12 days from Wednesday March 6 to Sunday March 17.

Wetherspoons fans will have the opportunity to taste beers from Belgium, Germany, Italy, Taiwan and the US.
