White Maltesers were a hit with chocolate lovers but were discontinued in 2014

What were white Maltese?

White Chocolate Maltesers were the white chocolate version of Maltesers.

The main difference between them and the original was that, instead of being covered in milk chocolate, they were covered in a delicious layer of white chocolate.

Maltesers are round balls of malted milk covered in chocolate.

They were launched in 1937 after being created by American Forrest Mars Sr.

Maltesers were first released in Britain and were originally intended for “dieting women” as a “lighter” way to enjoy chocolate.

Since then they have become popular throughout Europe and in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Why and when were the White Maltesers discontinued?

White Maltesers were discontinued in 2014.

They were pulled from the shelves eleven years after the initial launch.

White Maltesers were originally launched as a seasonal product, but became so popular that they were sold all year round.

It has been reported that they were discontinued due to lack of sales, but many chocolate lovers were devastated to see the end of their run.

In 2017 a petition started to bring back the sweet treat.

The petition’s creator had hoped to collect 2,500 signatures of support, but by March 2024, only 1,500 had signed the campaign.

It is not a wish but a necessity!’ say chocolate fans as they rush to M&S to buy Easter eggs perfect for biscuit lovers
