The Reddit forum is called r/HomeNetworking and has 345,000 members.

It is used to share Wi-Fi tips and tricks and emphasizes that “no question is too small.”

“Best way to improve WiFi speeds?” someone asked.

“I was wondering what the best way is to improve my WiFi speed.

“We’re getting 900 downloads over ethernet, but it’s not really feasible at the moment to drill holes in the wall to achieve this on my PC.

“We are currently only getting between 200 and 300 download speeds over WiFi. What would be the best way to improve WiFi speeds,” the Redditor asked.

“If you really want to improve your WiFi, run cables to anything static (PCs, consoles, TV boxes) and keep wireless for mobility for the devices that need mobility (phones, laptops and tablets),” one person replied .

“Cables are the only way, then you can add wireless devices to the end of those cables, which gives the best coverage,” she added.

“We sometimes forget: wires still exist! You don’t need Wi-Fi,” says Thomas Lewis, IT expert and founder of RIP city reviewstold Homes & Gardens magazine.

“For hardware that needs the fastest possible internet – a games console, desktop PC or streaming box, for example – it’s often worth running a cable.

“The router will have a handful of Ethernet ports to spare, so all you need is a cable,” he added.
