A WOMAN won a £1 million jackpot but has chosen to keep her job at ASDA.

Amanda Lewis, 50, scooped the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker windfall with her husband Barry, 52, last year.

Despite the life-changing sum, the mother-of-two refused to wrap up life behind the Wolverhampton supermarket checkout.

Amanda kept her £9-an-hour job and now customers ask her to kiss their lotto tickets for good luck.

She said: “There are people who say, ‘I want to buy my scratch card from that lady because she won the lottery’.

‘I even have colleagues who do that too.

“I knew it would get out and I thought it would be better to make it public. It also shows people that it is possible to win something.”

Amanda and Barry paid off the mortgage with their winnings, bought a few properties to rent out and a new house to live in.

They also treated their family.

Amanda added: “We promised the kids cars if we ever won, so we bought them each a car.

“We also bought Barry’s father’s estate for him. He has always worked and paid rent all his life, but he will no longer have to pay that.”

Barry has also kept his job as a self-employed tiler after last year’s victory.

I bought a fancy minivan with my huge lottery winnings, but I traded it in for a tiny house on wheels and left city life

He said: “You still have to work to make money. I love working and that’s the only way you can meet people and have a chat.

“It’s nice to have a substantial amount of money because it makes you feel more secure. You don’t have to worry about bills.

“A lot of people will say, ‘I can’t believe a millionaire tiled my bathroom.’”

It comes after another man, who managed to amass £1 million, decided to live off-grid in a small SUV.

Steve Glover, 73, couldn’t believe his luck when he checked his lottery numbers.

But all he wanted to do was throw the money in a camper van and move to Scotland.

And a Birmingham woman is still shopping in Poundland after her £2million win.

Marie Kibler and husband Paul still admit to watching their money.
