Amy Robach and TJ Holmes share their never-released statements

“Maybe it would have been better if we had done that [released statements]but what we were trying to do was keep our jobs,” Robach, 50, said on Wednesday, Dec. 20, on an episode of her and Holmes’ “Amy & TJ“podcast. “We had press releases ready that day that we had written.”
Robach said she and Holmes, 46, were hopeful they would be able to return to work GMA3The more time passed, the more unlikely it became. Despite returning to the show right after the news broke in November 2022, ABC pulled the duo from their position before officially letting them go in January.
“Everything about us wanted to speak out. But if we haven’t spoken out in the first few days, at what point do you do that?’ Robach shared. “It became very difficult and this was not in my wheelhouse or in [Holmes’].”

Robach explained that she had never had to do any press about herself before and that she had never been in a situation where an explanation was required. While Robach was thinking, Holmes decided to go to his inbox and look for the email draft of his statement with a time stamp of November 30, 2022, the same day news of their relationship broke.
“For some reason this draft was never sent as an email [Robach] just described,” Holmes admitted. “This is so wild, I’m reading it.”
Holmes revealed that both he and Robach decided that if they were to release a statement, they agreed they would do so separately rather than jointly. Holmes began to read Robach’s message aloud.
“My divorce is almost finalized after we decided to separate. TJ and I have been friends for years, and our relationship has only evolved in recent weeks,” he read from Robach’s never-released statement. “I ask for privacy for my family as we continue to heal.”

Holmes continued with a statement he wrote to himself: “After a month-long separation, I am in the final stages of my divorce, a process that has been difficult and that my family – for their sake – had hoped to keep private. I have leaned on my best friend throughout this painful journey and most recently that friendship has continued to grow. Out of respect for my family, I request privacy at this time.”
Holmes reiterated that although he and Robach never spoke about their romance at the height of the scandal, the couple was “ready to go.”
Last month, the pair announced their plans for their podcast venture, which shuttered earlier this month. In the episodes, Robach and Holmes have been candid about their relationship and how their loved ones responded to the scandal.
