Sex and the city spin-off series And just like that is returning for a third season – and the upcoming episodes are already the talk of the town.

The original series, which ran on HBO from 1998 to 2004, focused on Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her dating life in New York together with her friends Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall). Sex and the city expanded to two films before Max revived the show in December 2021.

When does the show return?

Although the series will be renewed for a third season in August 2023, viewers will have to wait a while for more episodes. The decision came after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA both went on strike amid individual labor disputes with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

The twin strikes were resolved by the end of the year, but And just like thatThe film's premiere date has been postponed until 2025.

Where have the main storylines gone?

The second season finale, which aired in August 2023, featured Carrie and Aidan (John Corbett) broke up after rekindling their romance for the third time. Nya (Karen Pittman), for her part, found that she had been elected to the American Law Institute, but it was her personal life that needed more attention. At the end of the episode, Nya crossed paths with the Michelin chef (Toussaint Feldman) again, hinting at a possible romance.

Meanwhile, Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) revealed that she had miscarried her child and was trying to come to terms with the loss.

Seemas (Sarita Choudhury) journey ended when she decided not to travel with her director boyfriend Ravi (Armin Amiri), to Egypt. Instead, she agreed to wait for him while he shot a movie for five months.

Will any characters leave in season 3?

In January 2024, Daily Mail reported that Ramirez had been dropped And just like that because her character was unlikable. Ramirez did not address the news at the time, but did take to social media to call out the film and television industries for punishing actors who have spoken out in support of Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Can fans expect Aidan to return in season 3?

Following his long-awaited return, viewers were shocked to discover that Aidan would not have a consistent presence on the hit Max series. In the season 2 finale, Aidan returned to Virginia, where he lived with his three teenage sons, after his youngest child was in a car accident. Aidan asked Carrie to wait until he moved to New York permanently in five years.

“Aidan now believes bad things happen when he's not around,” King said during an August 2024 episode of AJLT's companion podcast. “He gives in [Carrie] that he is truly the home for these three boys – and that is who he has always been.

Aidan and Carrie spent the night together before his departure, but it's unclear what their future will look like in future seasons.

Will Samantha come back?

After appearing in six seasons of Sex and the city and two films, Cattrall opted out of the Max series due to a falling out between her and Parker. Cattrall said she had no plans to reprise her role as Samantha, but she ended up filming a cameo for season 2.

According to multiple media outlets, Cattrall did not interact with Parker or King on set and shot the scene herself. This presumably means that Cattrall's on-screen appearance was likely a one-off situation.

What is the vision for season 3?

King previously hinted that Carrie and Seema's trip to Greece will provide a glimpse into the show's next chapter.

“I knew that before anything else, it would end with Carrie and Seema sitting on a beach in Greece looking at the horizon, that it wouldn't end with Carrie and Aidan,” he said on AJLT's companion podcast in August 2023. Our one little tip for you, the audience [and] the people watching and wondering what we are thinking.”

King continued, “There's a very small thread of what we're thinking at the end, which is Seema saying, 'Well, we walked into love, and where did that take us?' And she says, 'I'll wait five months and you'll wait five years.' And Carrie says, “Well, maybe I'll get some time off for good behavior.” You would only say if you are already going: 'It won't last five years.' She's very cute, but she goes on to say, “There will be more.”
