She said there is a fruit that can make you break out and an oil that can cause acne.

TikToker Zaila (@zaila.skin) may love natural skin care, but that doesn't mean all edible products are suitable for your face.

Zaila shared the top three ingredients you “should avoid in your homemade skincare recipes,” she said. “Many of you may be surprised.”

The skincare professional said the number one irritant is lemon.

“I know you see a lot of recipes on Google that call for lemon, but honestly, it's just way too harsh on your skin and too acidic,” she said.

“There are better alternatives to lemon such as yogurt and turmeric to brighten your skin at home,” Zaila added.

The second ingredient that DIY skincare enthusiasts should avoid is olive oil.

Zaila said it was “extremely comedogenic,” meaning it can cause acne.

“It's way too heavy and you will most likely break out if you use this directly on your skin,” she said.

Companies can get away with using olive oil in their products because it is “refined in a laboratory,” she said.

“And they are specifically formulated for use in skin care,” Zaila continued. “They're not just like cooking olive oil.”

The third thing people should stay away from is essential oils.

“Rose essential oil just isn't worth it,” Zaila said.

“Essential oils are really just fragrances and you are only damaging your skin by using them,” the beauty guru claimed.

“They have virtually no real benefits,” she added.

However, rose water and mists are great for your skin.

“Just don't use the real essential oils from those flowers,” she finished.
