A nine-year-old boy believed to have been left home alone has escaped a terrifying house fire after Good Samaritans came to his aid.

Emergency services were called to Rodley Avenue in Sydney’s western Penrith shortly before 6.15pm on Saturday and found a two-storey town house engulfed in flames.

A neighbor walking by the house saw the fire and helped the boy get out of the burning house after the little boy smashed a windshield trying to escape.

Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring homes, but the house was destroyed.

The fire is being treated as not suspicious.

Firefighters and crime scene officers are working to determine if a burning candle in the kitchen was the cause.

A child-at-risk report will be filed, police confirmed.
